As a few of the regulars will know, I've been thrapping around in the basic 3 pot Caterham 160S lately, it's a particular favourite of mine. I've written a bit of a review which you might like to read, here: http://www.motorpunk.co.uk/articles/the-basic-caterham-160-s-everything-you-need-in-a-sports-car/

Above, yup, that's a press-stud that holds the door shut. The green tag is for the keys, the ignition is buried behind the fascia.

Engine smaller than Tipex's lunchbox. :)

Lots more pics and a semi-sensible write up here: http://www.motorpunk.co.uk/articles/the-basic-caterham-160-s-everything-you-need-in-a-sports-car/

ETA - Booster, 50p if you can identify where I took the pics, it's en-route to a nice pub we both use.

Totally with you about the size of the pedal box and wearing the right shoes. I did a day at Donington with just socks on my feet as I couldn't fit my trainers in. After that I bought some driving boots.

Although I have to say that:

you will have just as a big a smile playing with 90% of the £16k 160’s capabilities than you will at 50% of the pant-cackingly quick £50k 620R’s

is 100% bang on +++  You will also learn al lot more.

Thin soled so you can feel the pedal properly, narrow so that they fit into any footwell (even a Caterham), soft & flexible so that they don't pinch or rub, and flameproof so that, well, err, just in case.

Painful? Slightly uncomfortable but nothing more than that. Less painful than getting out the car with just socks on and standing on some kitty litter that you may have deposited in the pit lane. That stuff hurts nearly as much as Lego!
