NewNiceMrMe
I've never had a bad or expensive haven holiday. I expected Butlins to be like haven but it wasn't, it was a real let down far more expensive but without the higher quality. ...which is interesting when you consider they're owned by the same group! Bourne Leisure own Butlins, Haven Holiday Parks and Warner Leisure Hotels. They're ran from the same place in Hemel Hempstead. Tipex
My brother used to manage Haven's parks in the UK, he now runs the hotel side of the business. They are what they are to be honest, not my cup of tea in the UK, but I'd happily do similar abroad, Butlins have come on a long way in recent years too, they used to be cheap and nasty, but people won't put up with that any more, Butlins Bognor is a far cry from the dump it used to be. That being said, I shagged quite a few girls at the Butlins 18-30 weekends, and a few more at the re-Union weekends some years later!
shao_khan
Haven is low cost, low rent and in the main good sociable people. Butlins feels low rent but costs were high and people were like those I commute with on the train into London. The UK holiday market is really very restricted in main stream holidays, limited tour companies, limited home holiday companies.

garcon magnifique
I'd happily recommend Haven to anyone wanting a budget break. Not so Butlins, nor Warner Leisure. My parents went to a Warner Leisure hotel a few years ago with friends and I went to visit. Tired and old fashioned, my parents weren't really up for the organised socialising... NewNiceMrMe
Indeed, their entire ethos is around older clients and participating in group activities. Gardening, dancing, bowls, cooking. etc.

AudiPartner
Well we've booked "Just for tots" week (our boys are 2 and almost 1). It's £500 for 4 nights, including food, staying in the Shoreline Hotel. Note the hotels are said to be considerably better than the apartments. Also our restaurant is exclusive to hotel guests. Shame the pool isn't! If we don't give it a try we will never know. We're expecting and hoping it will be fine. If not, we won't go again. Simples. I've heard great things about the hotel and the Just for Tots week so we're really looking forward to it. Will report back accordingly!!

garcon magnifique
Tipex, just in case my parents ever consider visiting one again, would you mind asking your brother what the refurbishment programme is for Warner Leisure hotels? And (if there is one) where he gets the authentic 1970s fixtures and decor?
Tipex
Ha, some of the Hotels are considerably nicer than others, I'm pretty sure they've spent a boat load of money in recent years but next time I see him I'll ask him. I've stayed at Cricket St Thomas and Holme Lacey House (which is where he can usually be found, despite living near Great Yarmouth) and have to say, both were very nice. E-bmw
To be honest, that is completely understandable....... Have you been to Gt Yarmouth? If I lived anywhere near there, I would stay elsewhere too at the drop of a hat!
Tipex
I did say near Gt Yarmouth! But yes I have, I mentioned earlier that my parents own a small thatched cottage just up the coast at Winterton On Sea, he isn't far from there, so we know that part of the world pretty well. There are some nice bits around there, trust me!
garcon magnifique
And with Sizewell just down the coast it's nice and warm even in winter... And the fish are massive. Parents went to Alvaston Hall in Cheshire. To be fair, a glance at the website suggests it's had quite a bit of work recently. What always puzzles me - and this is a general hotel industry thing - is why so many hotels spend a fortune on frequent refurbishment of the public areas but seem to forget about the bedrooms. Soulboy
I grew up in Croyde. Lived there until was 27. As you drive in, come down the hill and reach that last bend, if you then look up on the hill to your right, our house was the one with the stone circle around the window, two mins run from the beach :Dy As you then carry on a bit further, my Grandparents ran the car park on your right and i worked in it every summer as a boy. Dad was the Chef at Saunton Sands Hotel, i worked there too for a few years, and in the car park and beach shop at Saunton that my friends now run. Dont get back there anymore as much as i used to, as sadly nearly all my family are in Georgeham cemetery. Lovely part of the world though. We are going soon Arch. Any good recommendations off the beaten track? Pubs/restaurants/villages/beaches etc. We will obviously be in The Thatch a lot.....but it isn't as good as it used to be. And if the surf is blown out will head round to Putts. Any other local info greatly appreciated. Was looking for a boxing club to train at.....but nearest is Barnstable. Even just a gym with a punchbag. Any ideas?
