It was an interesting race and you're right that it was a good win for Lorenzo.  With how quick the Ducati was down the straight I think Lorenzo did really well to stay out in front into turn one for so many laps.

It's a shame Ianone didn't stay upright as I think he might have been more willing/able to have a real go at Jorge.

Marquez has to be happy with that as well.  With the troubles of the Honda, to only be a couple of seconds off over a race distance was a surprise to me.

Yeah, Marquez should be happy with that.  Hionda are getting desperate having even gone as far as reversing the crank direction.

My money was on Lorenzo for the win but I'd like to see a Ducati on the top step of the podium.  Iannone to me seemed the more likely of the two so it was a shame to see it go down.  Rumour is that the air turbulence from Dovi's winglets upset the front end of Iannone's bike which caused him to fall.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's an insane speed. I wonder what it feels like. Does it feel massively faster than what you can do on a modern bike? Is it still pulling or has it revved out etc?

I think the astonishing thing is how quick they stop with the wheel on a knife edge of either coming around the front or straight over it. Proper intense stuff that I don't think really gets conveyed fully on TV. Love it  +++

It is insane. You sum it up spot on, Scotty.

The development and 'science' of the bike is astonishing, let alone the technical skill and ability to control the bike with such force and motion is incredible.

Can you imagine what their forearms feel like after that stop every lap?

Brimming with lactic acid!

Pulling those G's whilst being so precise with brake lever etc. Properly riding the knife edge. I'm itching to get on track myself hehehe

p.s. I'm feeling racey today. :roflmao:
I've been out and got my slicks and wets. Hopefully they will last the season given the number of days I'll do  :)

What wet tyres did you go for?

Bridgestones - I know nothing about wets - this is my first time. Took advice from a respected guy on various FB groups I use - an ex-racer who now owns a tyre place in London.

Kind of stuck in my mind between "I hope I don't use them as dry is always more fun" and "intrigued to see what all the fuss is about and whether I can get my knee down in the rain"   :roflmao:

I bet Pedrosa is still struggling to believe that he got 3rd place in that race.

What happened to Lorenzo?  He got a great start then went backwards!  Such a shame that Vinales fell off, I was certain he was going to get 2nd.

I'm sure some choice Italian words have been used in the Ducati team.  Iannone gets a 3 place grid penalty for hte race in Texas and 1 penalty point on his license.  Seems far to me.

Only just caught up with the race.

Highlights for me were:

Excellent ride from Marquez and Redding

Marquez's pit stop

The two Dukes battling it out

Vinales speed on that Suzuki chasing Rossi

Dovi's inside move on the Ianonne and Rossi

Low points were:

Gutted for Lorenzo, especially binning it in from of a sea of Rossi fans!

Gutted for Vinales going down on that damp patch

Gutted Rossi picked up second from the Dukes feck up

Great viewing and great race, primarily helped by Michelin!
