Depreciation is guaranteed.  Bills from unreliability are not

Really. You've excelled yourself with The Stupid this time.

Can you have depreciation OR unreliability then? Oh. Wait. No, of course not, because......lol what.

There's an obvious pay off between maintenance of an older car and depreciation of a newer car, especially if the newer car is still in warranty.

But that just covers the different ways in which car ownership costs a shitload of cash. If someone could explain how it makes any significant difference to your budget for buying the car in the first place I'd be delighted to know.

I like Cayenne's and agree that the 2nd generation has moved on considerably with its interior and exterior.

Typically the GTS of any model is the one that retains most value as its fully loaded with kit and the V8 in that one doesn't have the coolant pipe or bore ovalling issues of the earlier S models.

That said, I'm really not sure about the body kit. Maybe it'd look better in a darker colour - don't know what the market availability of Catenee GTS's's's is though? Almost makes the wheels look lost and they're probably 20s to start with!

There aren't a huge number of them.  Which, as you point out, is a good thing.  I'm looking at that one and a red one :) but the white one has the advantage it's at a known Porsche specialist, is nearer, and seems to have more kit.  It's also a year younger.

I'd prefer a 2nd gen one, but my baseline is the 2003 pre-facelift version which I spent a lot of time looking at when they were new (and very nearly bought one).  To me, the 2009 cars look new!  Also, the huge advantage of this price point is that it is a little below the last valuation I had on the Disco - so this is potentially a zero cost :roflmao: transaction.

Oh, and can I ask that if I buy one, it should forever be known as the Porsche Catanee?  :P

Well...Tipex...there's context in response.

I want to buy 'x' product, second hand it's in my price range and quite good I think.

NOO! Buy 'y' - it's the same, but 3 times the price and comes with a warranty.

Factually correct, but ****ing retarded from a perspective point of view.

You could argue with that logic that anyone suggesting they want a second hand car should, you know, buy a new one because new.

This thread reads like people haven't followed the query in relationship to the variables involved.

This. +++

There are a lot of the pre-2010 Cayenne models with kits fitted, in various guises.

The thing is that most can be removed and a few hundred quid will patch up the fixing points.  Nobody would ever know.

I also agree that a lot of the Cayenne's of that year look like new.  This is a Porsche.  Yes they have a few things that might be known as being flaws by now, but you could say that of any car and the number of flaws would be a lot more.

I like the white, the wheels suit it and the GTS is a lovely sounding thing with many of the values Patently refers to wanting in place of the Disco.

The difference in price between that year and the next generation is huge.  As a percentage of the price, it doesn't even make the budget anything like the same field of play.

He'll lose a lot less on it.  Maintenance cost differences will be neither here nor there.  A Macan is not a Cayenne.  Why not look at a MINI whilst he's at it, or a Ferrari 458?

If replies had said to spend a grand more, or two grand more (or a grand or two less), I might have understood them.

Red looks ace on the GTS though!

I'll see your Catanee and raise you my Twbo - DYAC

Well now, you see the problem with all that, is that there is no context, no budget has been mentioned, nothing.

I don't know if P can or cannot afford a newer model, nor do I have any idea how much more the newer model costs, P asked for peoples thoughts and, he got them.

I'm not sure why you and MrMe are whining about people doing exactly what P asked for?

It's true I didn't say at the start what my budget is, and given that I run a race car people might assume I have loads of cash.  Actually, I don't (mainly because I run a race car!).

However, there is some context from the nature of the car I'm looking at +++

To be fair to me and others you had also previously mentioned that you were thinking of going for a newer model of your current motor and also other rivals so its not that hard to potentially assume the budget might be pushed up.

Yeah yeah we are all mad for suggesting that as an option how silly of us and why would we have thought that.

Anyway post some pictures of other options and let us know if you are going to become a footballer and move to cheshire anytime soon as for the white one you would have to surely. :secret: +++

Okay then, put yourself in Patently's shoes for a moment.

He owns a 911.

He knows cars.

He isn't known for 'not' researching vehicles.

He posts a car and says "should I buy this or not".  Do you really think that he needs to be told to buy the next generation car instead or how unreliable and crap something must be?  I don't.  I think he just wanted a few personal views on "do you like this?" or not.

Sometimes, people don't need telling the simple things - especially when they're clearly an intelligent person.

Plus, when people say "Oh buy the next generation" they've clearly not looked at the fact they cost a shitload more and are therefore probably out of the parameters an individual has set themselves to spend on the said vehicle.

I just think it is very patronising.
