But he still thought HUD isn't an option because he couldn't live with it and it never dawned on someone spending £50k that other trim levels on the 440i weren't configurable?

Serious buyer, yeah.

He was never going to buy the 440i, he wanted to see what it was like.  They did not have the M4 Coupe in for hjim to drive at the time.

He nor I never said the HUD was/wasn't an option.  Just that it was something he didn't like in the car he drove.  It is something he might have got used to - as I mentioned in the OP.  Whether it was an option or not is by the by.

The facts are, he really liked the M4 CC's dynamics and the extra 100 bhp, but would not be able to live with the old dials

The S5's dynamics, although slightly inferior, were more than made up for with the tech (configurable dash) and modern interior.

As Carmad has mentioned, why hasn't it filtered down to the 3/4 Series yet?  Has customer feedback stopped them from doing it?  Nearly as bad as Merc with their foot/handbrake thing.

Final attempt....

"However, he was not at all impressed with the interior of the BM, and didn't think he'd be able to live with it each time he drove the car.  The stripe along the fascia (blue?).  "

I'm not even the only person to mention it - no such thing, and a serious buyer would know of trim options anyway.  How many times do people drive a car and think "yuck" that option isn't for me, but you've clearly made out that he felt the stripe was something that couldn't be adjusted.

"Nor the dash and he was really not impressed that it still has the old dials of yore after coming from his current A5.

We all agree with that.  Settled.  It should be MFD as in the 5's and 5GT's and other models as an option.

"He didn't like the HUD on the test drive, but maybe that is something he'd get used too?"

That doesn't sound like someone talking about it as an option.  I don't think I'd be the only one who could be forgiven for saying it sounds like he thought it was mandatory.

Cars are subjective and I'd understand anyone buying an S5.  Lovely, as I've said.  However, the reasons for not buying the M3 include two, well, how shall I put this?  Complete pieces of imaginary bollocks?  If you can't see why I might think that from what you wrote, then I give in.

This isn't an Audi v BMW argument.  It is "that is complete and utter nonsense in your post" argument.

Actually, is that you in the video Eldavo.  And see that green car, that's yours, that is

You're a prick - that's quite blatantly an optional extra and shouldn't influence your purchasing decisions either way. I bet you've never even owned a Corsa!

And if he was to havebought the demo version he drove?  Then that is something you are stuck with.

The A5 he drives now - that was the demo model at the dealership.

I think this thread is proof that today's cars are too fecking complicated for the average buyer to understand.

Now, about this blue stripe. Are you sure it was blue? It's just that I have scientific evidence that Audi drivers are colour blind. They go on and on about a colour they call Nogaro Blue, which, to anybody with functioning eyesight, is quite clearly mauve.

Right, now there you're totally wrong.  I should know. I used to have several Audis and I also used to own three companies whose names were based around teh colour mauve, and I can quite categorically state that Audi have never done a colour mauve, even with their "oh you have that much to spend on an Audi, sir, how about our exclusive colour collection" options.

This is mauve, you dullard

Aha! Sir would like to consider our Individual range? Excellent choice if I may say so, sir. Now, if you'll just bend over our colour selection desk while I dry **** you up the arse, we'll be able to match the paintwork of your Audi Q2 S Line TDI Lifestyle I'm Definitely Not Gay I Have a Family You Know Edition to the precise colour of your ring piece when I've finished!
