AZURES3
Guys Anyone got any pics showing the difference, I have seen a couple of pics of the A4 Sline I have ordered by the Ebony Black looks the same as the flat black. I thought the Ebony black had more of a grey metallic tinge. AZ
Ari
Without doubt Ebony, without a shadow of doubt. The demo A4 Cab I very first took out was Brilliant Black and it looked fine, but I've since seen one in Ebony and it looked stunning! The Ebony is metallic, and just seems to have so much more depth to it somehow...
GCab
Hope I'm not offending anyone here but there's a flat-black (Brilliant?) Cab at work and it's so drab that I didn't even notice it for months, until I bought mine and looked at it with more interest. And this is a car that in any colour stands out and attracts compliments like a magnet gathers iron filings. So go for the more exclusive variant, is all I can say. I think Ebony was the colour of the demonstrator I tried, and it was a different league - so much so that one of the reasons I went for silver was that the Ebony Black looked too flash parked on the street! Talk about going from one extreme to the other - compared to the car at work which failed to draw the attention of the man who went on to buy his own Cab... richy_uk
I don't think you'll see the real difference in pictures. Ebony does appear to have some very minor grey flecks to the paint to make up the metallic look, but you've got be close to the car to really notice. From a distance, there's not much difference. On a clean brilliant black car with loads of wax and that really deep shine look, I think it looks stunning and better than Ebony, but the effect lasts for milliseconds and as we all know, std black is not the most durable of paints. I had an Ebony black loaner for some time earlier this year and must admit, the colout really grew on me, so much so that my replacement cab arriving in 2 weeks is Ebony. I did notice more head turns on the Ebony black cab compared to my Carib blue one (once described as the Vanessa Feltz of cab colours) which surprised me. If I were you, I'd stick to Ebony on maintenance grounds alone. Black is the beeatch of all colours to look after.
Viraje
IIRC the ebony black is actually a pearlescent finish, ie metal flakes in the paint and finer coloured flakes in the laquer. Very subtle, but makes the difference.
Ari
[ QUOTE ] IIRC the ebony black is actually a pearlescent finish [/ QUOTE ] Absolutely correct. One of only four Pearlescent finishes available on the A4, bthe others being Moro Blue, Carribean Blue, and Deep Green.
Sven
Ebony Black Pearl definitely... Much classier IMO, and from certain angles indeed a very dark grey. As said it's pearlescent, and therefor livelier than metallic and plain. Brilliant Black is available in plain (Y9B) and metallic (A9V). So, if you - unwisely - decide to go for that, make sure you get the kind you want... Ebony Black Pearl...

[/ QUOTE ] Gotta agree with Richy, if you do low mileage, and are an?l about your car cleaning, plain black will be the better colour. As an all year round (slightly) less maintence colour, go for the metallic.
Big_Dan
I haven't got any pics to compare, but a brilliant black parked next to my ebony black one here and I'd go for ebony every time. The other one looked very dull and lifeless in comparison.

MarkYorkshire
Attached is the link to a pic in my gallery of an ebony black courtesy car I had. Although in photos it is difficult to tell the difference between ebony and the non metallic black in real life ebony looks the business. Waylander
thanks CabGirl ... and another for Ari! to go back to the original debate though - wife is a black car lover in principle and wanted ebony black; i agree it looks nicer than standard black but not "£400" nicer - if you get what i mean...just gave me an excuse to push through my mauritus blue with was my #1 choice and her #2 [and vice versa with the black]. admittedly a waxed standard black [such as the demonostrator i had] looks cool too but very ordinary when even a little dusty] to be fair i also like the dolphin grey... just time for another for Ari before i go!
