Drillslinger
I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these: And was hoping a Tyresmoker had some insight (Doubtful, as they're LHD only, but worth a shot )
Tomson13
I want to install one in my RS4 also, and like the A pillar guages. If anyone knows of a company that make OEM style right hand drive A-Pillar guages i would be very interested. Thanks Tom

Drillslinger
Let's nor forget that 42 Draft Designs (Who make that pod) have said that they haven't received enough interest to do a RHD model Oh, and they SAY it only fits the MKIV Golf, and NO Audi's, but I have serious doubts that it wouldn't fit an 8L A3
Drillslinger
OK, I decided..... screw it, I'm gonna go for it Now the next question.... what color do y'all think I should go for? It's only available in Gray, Beige or Black. My interior has a light blue headliner and dark blue dash. So, should I get the gray pod, which will look lighter than the headliner but only a bit. OR should I get a black pod, and hope that it blends better with the dash and appears like an extension of the dash? Any opinions?
JayBeeS3
Drill, is the boost gauge easy to fit? would to kewl to have one of those on the A-pillar......
Drillslinger
Well it LOOKS pretty easy to do. But getting the A-Pillar trim off seems to give some folks problems There's also the matter of which vacuum line to cut into. The directions say to use the FPR line, but some folks cringe at that thought. Instead, they recommend going off of the DV line. I'll prolly go that route But, like I said, I figure I'll go for it anyway What do you think I should order? The gray or the black? *Edit* I forgot to add that the 42Draft Designs guy told me in an e-mail that he had heard the pod was not a direct fit, but I'll find out
JayBeeS3
grey or black, grey or black............ mmmmm well you've got a blue interior so i think i would go for grey (depends on how grey the grey is) or see if you can retrim the gauge with blue cloth? Drillslinger
Well, the fabric is on the pod pretty good But I HAD entertained the thought of trying to find some sort of "Fabric Paint" to get it from gray to light blue But was unsure of a match Still, for $105 it's a good solution
Paul
having fitted a tiny tiny cable for a bluetooth mic behind the gap at nthe very top of the a-pillar, i wouldnt want to pull the cover off they are fixed like to a blanket. I managed to slip a credit card in between the gap and slip the tiny cable behind it. also for anyone thinking to fit things on this pillar, make sure you havent got sideguard airbags, or it will become a projectile in a crash. Drillslinger
Yeah, quick question on the "Projectile" part The Side Air Bags open the pillar trim from the bottom, so wouldn't that send any guage across the dash and NOT into your face as some folks have suggested? Also, someone on the Club1.8T forum made mention of attaching their gauge to the A-Pillar with a bit of wire, so I was gonna look into that approach, just to be safe
Paul
if you got side airbags i would not risk it.
jojo
Hi guys, I have just DIY fitted a boost gauge on to my S3 with some help from fellow members of another forum. The best line to get the vacumm feed is off one of the tubes coming of the inlet manifold pictured here: (pic of TT engine) The brass T-piece just left of the middle. This is easiest to access and avoids the FPR, so won't effect fuelling, and avoids being too close to the DV which would give irregular readings due to it's solenoid valve operation. Hope this helps Joe
Mollox
Hmm i do fancy a boost gauge. That thing looks so bulky though... And I have sideguard too
A3_DSG_SPORT
i emailed the company 42draft etc.. they told me they dont do the new Audi A3... what car have you got drill?? is it worth getting one for the 2.0TDi, coz they look quite cool!! Sven
There's also this solution. Depicted for the S4 biturbo, but as the vents aren't that different there might a way to fit them in the A3/S3.
Drillslinger
[ QUOTE ] i emailed the company 42draft etc.. they told me they dont do the new Audi A3... what car have you got drill?? is it worth getting one for the 2.0TDi, coz they look quite cool!! [/ QUOTE ] Well, I KNOW they don't do one for the 8P A3. The 8L (Like mine) isn't a "Direct Fit" according to them, but the pod is made for the MKIV Golf, and I don't think the A-Pillars are all THAT different, so while I may need to trim a bit, it shouldn't be too difficult. As for the sideguard, there seems to be a bit of contention on this one. Companies say it's unsafe, and that in the event of an accident where sideguard deploys, the guage becomes a "Projectile". My question is, if the SideGuard deploys, wouldn't that send the guage AWAY from you? And also, in how many instances do the side airbags deploy from a frontal impact? After all, that's the only impact I can see where the gauge would be forced BACK into the driver. Side impacts would send it horizontal, no? I haven't ordered anything yet, so thanks for the discussion
Drillslinger
Was looking at Sven's suggestion, and this DOES look nice: But not sure if the A/S4 vent will fit the A3?? Anyone know?
JayBeeS3
Drill, almost sure the A/S4 vents will not fit the A/S3, the shape is quite different. I think the A-pillor will be the best location and I agree with you that incase of a deploying airbag, the gauge will not be a projectile otherwise you would also get the trimming of the A-pillar in yer face when the airbag deploys....... [/ QUOTE ] Depends on the size of the single vent, the fact there are three vents in the S4 vs. two in the A3 is in itself not that relevant I guess. You could always drop the guy an e-mail. Maybe he can even source a similar item for the A3. It's and American site, so that'll be the reason it's not listed. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I like the other one too, but there's the airbag issue, and the fact it's apparently not easy to dismantle the trim (according to Paul). And you wouldn't have to colour-code it...
Drillslinger
Well, color-coding wouldn't really be an issue I have the Gray sunglass holder on the drivers side, and it doesn't look TOO out of place I was also wondering if the vent gauge could be "modified" to fit the A3, but will prolly measure up my vent first, then send the dimensions along with the e-mail. Mo-S3
Hi matey, trust me the A4 and A3 vents are VERY differnt. There is no way you can modify the A4 vents to fit. I know coz i have both cars and know the differences. Also the point about the side curatin airbags, persoanlly i wouldnt want to risk putting anything in front of any airbag. You can not calculate the direction of a the projectile and what if your frau is with you? Would you want a boost gauge permanently attached to her face in the event of a unfortunate accident ? Sven
If you'r looking into an A pillar gauge, it might be worth talking to these guys (home) Methinks this looks better as the other one, AND they do custom jobs & colour match... I imagine they would have given some thought to the airbag issue as well. Here is another (better) look at the vent mount. I can imagine the manufacturer might make the casings for other models as well, not just thre A4/S4.

[/ QUOTE ] unless its designed to stay intact and just split at a weak point.... there is no way id ever fit something infront of, ontop of an airbag knowingly. please be sensible guys!
