APR and Firware upgrade

OK, have had the APR software installed for a good few months now, and love it to bits....but suddenly released today I may have a slight problem.

My :R doesn't have cruise control, and I haven't yet got round to fitting it, thus I can't switch the APR off without returning to the installer. This presents me with a wee problems since I've intermittently had the EPC light on recently, and I also want the new firmware upgrade. For reading around I know that if I just turn up to the stealers with the car in current mode, it will throw up all help when they hook it up to system analyse...I'll end up with the car in the shop for weeks while they try to install a whole new ECU...

This brings me to a good few questions:

1) Can I reset the ECU back to factory myself without driving all the way to Star to get it wiped, and upgraded by VW then back to Star for reinstall. (Thus saving me at least one weekend and an extra trip to glenrothes)

2) Even if I had the cruise installed (with the option to switch program back to factory) would this also cause problems with the VW computer if in future I have problems or need to upgrade the firmware again? People have said in the past that the software should be undetectable by the stealer if set back to factory settings...but I'm still wary...

3) Has anyone noticed any difference with 6463 Vs. 6463 & APR since everyone seems to think the car drives much better with the firmware. Should I even bother reinstalling APR once I've put 6463 on there?

Cheers

Is your car giving you any signs of problem? or are you just responding to all the stuff on here regarding 6463?

The program will still be on your ecu until it is reflashed with a standard mapping.

If someone is looking for the program, they will find it. If you have your ecu locked(via cruise control) and the car is in for normal work then they will be none the wiser.

Lights came on intermittently on my car also, before and after apr and before and after firmware update, but only ever on the motorway when making the engine work hard sekret.gif, with the increase in bhp the air flow system is at its limit, no harm is coming to your car its just the meter letting you know it's being asked for more air than it can supply. is this not something that you can deal with?

I have been reading all the stuff on the upgrade and the problems some people were having with APR and the ECU. If it ain't broken Bob , don't fix it, your car is running fine then leave it alone, don't jump on the band wagon just because everyone else has updated for 6463,give it a few months more and 6463 will be updated, it's not a permanent fix. znaika.gif

Enjoy your car as it is, no hesitation then no problem beerchug.gif

I agree with Craig Bob! I had a wee bit of hesitation and after hearing everybody give #6463 the thumbs up I decided (also be cause I was fitting the BF exhaust and considering APR) to get the update!

I don't think its that great to be honest!! I still think its hesitates, but not as much and at differents points in the rpm range, plus lately it has longer flat spots until its really warmed up (cooler air as we exit summer). I also think that its not as good in 5th/6th, doesn't pull as well as it used to. For many #6463 was a step up for me its a step sideways - I'm going to drive the car some more in different conditions and decide if I want my old program back or not... or just get APR!!

Now that I have the BF fitted, 2nd, 3rd and 4th definitely are better than before but I can't tell if thats the exhaust of #6463!!

If you've got APR, you happy with the cars performance and the dash lights issue is intermittent, not that frequent and doesn't affect the cars performance then as Graig says - If it ain't broke...... 169144-ok.gif
