Snail
For ages been meaning to dynamat around the front speakers of my tractor. Actually did it on sunday, strangely, the don't seem to produce any more bass (that i can sense), but the bass focus seems to have moved forwards (always sounded like the sub in the boot was the only bass, now it seems to come from almost the front of the car) Soo it would all be good except, the speaker wire in the doors is shagged. i have quality cable from the amp (in boot) to where my headunit is, then std cable from headunit to crossover (in door) then quality cable again, now it looks like a re-wiring job (which i actually paid for ages ago, when i had the amp installed) Is it easy to get a wire from inside the car to inside the door? Mollox
Err I don't think its that tricky. Can't speak for the A4 but for the S3 to do it properly involves removing the Glovebox and door panels. That's not to say you can't do it with the glovebox in place, but if you want to keep it tidy (then on the S3 at least) you need to be fishing that glovebox out. I haven't seen this on a derv audi before but I assume you will need to hoover out the hay and soot from inside the doors too . Mine's dynamatted and I'm happy - but then I don't have a 'before' reference for the S3 either. I had pretty much the same kit in my Golf and always complained that the front couldn't keep up with the back and its better now but is that because of the dynamat or the switch to alpine speakers up front? I don't know... this is the 3rd pair of fronts I have had to try and keep up with my original 3-way kit. inigo
Bushy
My understanding was that our cars are quite well built so probably not worth dynamatting. Obviously cars like say old escorts and peugeots gain significantly form this as it stops panel flex and bounces the sound back into the car. As for wiring to the doors this is easy, as indicated reove the panels from the doors and the glovebox, dash panel but the main pint is the cable grommet/wire way from the car to the door is approx 50mm x 25mm so it is easy to feed extra cables through it. I also rewired my speakers from the rear amp, no probs Good luck, and i think that improved the sound alot, also used a different amp and bypassed the bose

EFMAX
Sound deadening is always a good idea if you are putting quality sound into your car. For the future, if you or anyone elses need s sound deadening pads I can get some decent stuff which is equal to Dynamat Original but without the price tag for £25. It comes as a box of 10 sheets, each sheet measures 500mm by 200mm so effectively you get 5m of the stuff by 8 inches wide. In my A2 when they had to feed extra cable through to the front doors they ended up patching the stuff into the original hole,, but I know it took ages to get it right and some blood was lost in the process.
