Calm Chris
New Years day felt pretty rotten, but put that down to the volume of fluids drunk the previous night. As the day progressed, the aches started (arms, legs and ribs / chest that feels as if I've been given a good kicking), the hot/cold/hot/cold and the hangover (heavy headache) stayed.......... Last 2 x nights I've soaked the spare bed (with sweat!)and ended up having to use towels as over blankets. The diet has been water, lem sip max and the very occasional piece of toast for 48 hours. I still feel like So question is, does anyone have any quick fix cures? The local pool has a sauna and it's been suggested that that might work- Does it help? Is there anything better than lem sip? On the plus side, its kept me to the New Years resolutions.. (no drinking and a diet). I've lost 4 kgs!
UBM
Hi M8 - got the same bug myself. Now going into day 8. Off work today (1st day back), no apetite. Just keep taking the Flu Strength Lemon Drinks and I found Meltus expectorant a really good cough linctus to get the phlegm up! Still sweating loads, can't wait to get rid.... Some of my German colleagues were off work for over 2 weeks... By the way, there is no cure for flu - it is a virus! You can only treat the symptoms! Dave
I'm afraid that's right.. you can only treat the symptoms of flu.. paracetamol/decongestant and some thing to sooth the throat.. day nurse and night nurse always work well for me. If it does go on more than 7 days, it can sometimes mean that you havge got a secondary bacterial infection and this will respond to antibiotics Dave
Snail
I reckon you should just drink through it

Dave
Vit C is good.. being water soluble you don't store it in your body and research has shown that we use more if it when we are fighting off infection!
Beast
Get a fresh lemon, cut it in half and soak one half in a mug of "boiling"water. Leave it for 10 mins then take it out and squeeze the hell out of it to remove all the juices into the mug. Add a teaspoon of sugar and stir! Enjoy! Do the same every few hrs and you'll be sure to be feeling better in 24hrs. Be sure to get a few of the lumpy bits in the cup from the lemon! Works a treat! Beast
Oh and you can always add your paracetamol too. Obviously sticking to the recomendations on the packet! Perfect homemade lemsip with fresh Vitamin C!
danksy
I've been in bed for 5 days with flu, and found that when I increased my fluid intake my aches/pains went and my temperature dropped a little. At my peak I was forcing myself to drink 8 pints of water a day! (Not that many when you consider 6 pints of wife beater will happily slip down on a night out!) I know how you feel mate! NewNiceMrMe
A nurse once told me that too much Vitamin C (or those that took supplements and then ate more products containing lots of C) was being linked to various cancer cases. Whether it is right or wrong what I found incredible was that she was saying this 3 hours after I had sat with my Mum as she died from Pancreatic Cancer. I was stunned. It was 3 years ago. Calm Chris
Thanks peeps- I've been awake all day and fluids increased, still can't handle food. Then again on a positive note post Xmas weight lose is no longer a problem. I was told about the home made lemon drink with paracetamol (bashed in a mortar) but to add in honey (so it sticks to your throat) and just a wee bit of brandy (clears the sinuses...honest!!! hic, hic). Today is least worse day, so hopefully I'll stand a chance of a proper sleep later. I'm going to find the XO brandy before bed time and after all, its medicine. Calm Chris
M3Me My sister a veggie and well up on the Vitamin thing she told me that consumption of Vitamin C well beyond RDA has been linked to certain medical issues. Due to the still unqualified rumours that vitamin 'C' does sort out colds and flu's, people will quaff 10-15 x RDA. Apparently after about 3 x RDA your wee wee will be a very bright colour. Your body will reject the over load of Vitamin via this natural method, but the over load when done on a regular basis can be linked to cancer sufferers and victims. RDA is recommended daily allowance. Where's that brandy.
