Oli
Right, I now have a diesel and at present would struggle to join the 25mpg club!!!
fizzbitt
your car hits 60 in sub 6 seconds... so damn right you shouldnt be able to get above the 25mpg club! lol

fizzbitt
I take it that you lot with super high mpg's dont live in the hills of west yorkshire. lol
chasdrury
I live in the Hills of Sheffield and drive into West Yorkshire every day! Does that count!!
fizzbitt
ha.. and what mpg do you get? on the M62 i seems to get on average about 45mpg but then that is in morning rush hour traffic...
edo
plenty of hills here in Surrey too. I'm averaging 43.5 in 7000 miles. Occasional careful runs to get the figures I pot on here, but otherwise, drive hard when conditions permit. Never drops below 30 though.
chasdrury
Well over 50mpg every tank. That is calculated at every fill up...My journey is Sheffield - M1 - M18 - A1 - A1(M)!
J_C
Averaging 49.1mpg in my A4 (DIS value); usually about 600 miles to a tank. 145k miles so I think it's just about run in now.
fizzbitt
I managed a 57.8mpg yesterday due to me being scared of running out of fuel!!! That was over a 40 mile journey! Never again ta...
v15ben
Not an oil burner, but after 5 years with my Nissan Micra 1.0, I've almost hit the magic 50! I managed 266 miles on a tank giving 48.2mpg so just need a couple more miles out of the tank and I'll be over the line
LiverpaulH
I have no hope of making this club with my 1997 Scorpio 2.5TDi, usually get between 28 and 32mpg. Towing a trailer doesn't make much difference to be honest. Can push towards the late 30's on a long run (if I run at sensible speeds) so am amazed at the figures the more modern diesels can manage. In fact I think the 22mpg I get out of my Ford Falcon 4litre is a better achievement. I'll have to have a go in the wifes focus diesel and see if I can hit the magic figure. Rustynuts
Well, since the new motor arrived I've not managed to get into the 50s. I'm not overly disappointed though as I keep getting a big smile on my face whenever I get in it. Still getting around 48 - 49 though. Need to try harder. Sponge
I was worried I'd never reach the dizzy heights of 50mpg again, but a recent trip Liverpool - Newbury - Liverpool returned a healthy 57mpg at a steady 60mph. Happy with that.
Rustynuts
Well, I'm back in. The last 2k miles have delivered 51.6mpg. Still nowhere near the Bora, but getting better.
shark_90
I've been most definitely out this week. Had to use the S2 as the clutch on the 80 gave way while I was up in Penrith. So I've done ~22mpg all week (1300 miles). Hurts the wallet, and then I have to pay to fix the oil burner too!

bigfella
nice steady run to amsterdam. 60 all the way and got 53mpg out of the a6 tdi!! and diesel was resonably cheap at 78p a litre!! happy days!
J_C
I might be back in again soon. Being skint for the last couple of months - together with the rising fuel costs - has meant that I'm light-footing it everywhere and the average in my sooty is now creeping back up again. 49.7 and slowly rising! AvantSE
Pah, I've worked out my mpg on 2 tankfuls in the A4 TDi and got 45mpg and 44mpg respectively. And that included quite a high proportion of "long steady runs". Bit disappointed, must try harder. The quattro version I had consistently did about 42mpg.
