UBM
You're right - may as well put address and phone number on the bottom of the plate. Don't think I'd ever get one (the missus!) - it's nice to personalise your car in other ways..

JamesB
I still can't understand the motivation behind personalised plates. Why do people want their initials or car make on their cars? If you see something like S4 MAT, do you actually think - "wow, I didn't realise that was an S4 and I'm glad I know that was MAT driving it"? I've got nothing against it as it is just a question of personal taste but would (genuinely) like to know why people have them.

NewNiceMrMe
I have one. It was a birthday present from my wife. More than anything it's just different. I don't have it for the purpose of others knowing I am driving the car - they can see that. I have it for me (or rather, it was got purely for me, as I said). No-one would know what mine meant unless they knew me anyway. Each to their own. If people want to spend their money on a plate, on designer clothes, or expensive stereo/tv systems whatever - i say each to their own, let em do it if it makes them happy. NewNiceMrMe
I've watched conversations in threads on here where people are spending £2k+ on TV's and the like, then thousands or well over £600+ on stereo's and much like some quip over number plates I sit here and think....wow...why.... I have a £600 Toshiba TV nowt flash - does me though I have a 5 year old Technics hi-fi that only gets switched on at Xmas for the carols etc - does me though But....others really like spending in that area and good on them. I like shirts and ties, not designer stuff necessarily, just lots of them. Others would laugh no doubt, but they're my little hobby sad though it is. I like my cars, my bike, etc - others might spend the monies on yachts or flying time... ..so all in all, each to their own. It makes the world worth seeing! I have one, always wanted one and the chance for quite a good one came up a couple of years ago at a reasonable price. I thought long and hard about it, decided it wasn't really worth it, and then bought it anyway and have never regretted it. Its hard to pin down the exact motivation. I guess it looks a little "tidier" than a jumble of letter and numbers, it makes the car instantly recognisable to family and friends, it is a bit of a status thing I suppose, and when alls said and done I just like it. Its funny how you get attached to them too, I can't imagine wanting to sell it or not have it, even if circumstances were different and it had to go on a cheaper car. Its a bit of individuality in a dull world I guess.

activa
Saw a blinder this evening on a Merc. Read "DAVE".Haven't worked out what it really was but it didn't look messed about with from 100 yards-just looked fantastic! Always thought TUR 80 was a top plate, trouble is it's 75k and that's probably more than I'll ever have to spend on a car so that's out the window! r88per
I'd just turned 17 many moons ago and was flicking through the back of the autotrader. I spotted the plate PAU 1R, it was going for £1200. I was very tempted but backed down at the last minute. Bearing in mind that I was on my 1st car that I'd just paid £1000 for. I saw it advertised a couple of year ago for £14000. Its on this now Vehicle details Manufacturer Isuzu Model TROOPER TURBO DIESEL Body type light 4x4 utility Colour Blue Fuel type Heavy oil Date manufactured 01 February 2004 Number of previous owners Last owner change
