DHA
Please help settle and argument i am having. I ma talking about the Cooper S (not the mini one or standard cooper) that has been tuned either with the "Works" package or by Hartge. Therefore it has 200bhp. So what sort of image does this car have??
shao_khan
So did you mean the Cooper S at 161bhp or one of the works cars? Either way I think they are girl about town.

PreacherCain
[ QUOTE ] what sort of image does this car have?? [/ QUOTE ] Well, on the basis of the looks, the marketing and the miserably, wheezingly inadequate performance of the (presumably standard) one I saw in Nottingham last week, I'd suggest an Option 5: "Ugly, over-hyped, over-marketed, self-consciously cute, stupidly decorated travesty of a classic British design, with wide wheels and bonnet vents bunged on at the last minute in a doomed attempt to distract the eye from the fact that it accelerates about as fast as Dutch elm disease". I fucking hate those laughable shitwagons.
loddrik
Drive one and you probably woulnd't give a toss about the image. Not that quick but would run rings round an S3 on dry streets (I know having had 2 S3s).
fatcat
The mini has 'girlie' written all over it, not sorta the car the millenium man needs to be seen driving................... no, no
DHA
[ QUOTE ] not sorta the car the millenium man needs to be seen driving [/ QUOTE ] So what would that be then? And cain, a simple i dont like it would have sufficed rather than the slating you just gave it
PreacherCain
I know I haven't driven one - but it'd have to be pretty bloody special... And besides, I think a lot of people find it very difficult to put image out of their minds when buying a car. I mean, I know I could have had a mechanically identical car to my A3T, for a lot less money, from VW or SEAT. But at the end of the day, I wanted a "four-ring" badge on the steering wheel, and was prepared to pay for it. I suspect the same applies to a lot of audi buyers, but I may be wrong... And there's something so self-consciously cute and fluffy about the MINI. And that has me reaching for the nearest bat... Oh, and DHA, you'll find I never use a simple phrase where a long, rambling and probably obscene paragraph will do...
Ari
I reckon a lot of it is down to colour. Get a metallic black one with big wheels and dark glass and it'll look the part. Get a bright yellow one with white wheels and a white roof and it'll send out an entirely different image!

Brabus
Round here the only people who drive them are girlies/women and young rich lads who have them given to them for their 18th birthday and so on. Not a manly car really, is it now?
A3Floyd
I reakon the standard Cooper is better looking. i'm not too keen on the styling on the S - looks a bit confused and halfords-ish to me.
snez22
i like the look of all minis with the 17inch wheels.
Adam
I think they S looks good in black or grey with the big wheels but parts are just a bit too twee - those twin central exhausts look decidedly naff but I do like the interior trouble is they suffer from the Z3/TTimage thing imho - girls pick cars that look "nice" and if they can't afford the Z3 or TT they'll go for a Mini or MGF if the Works was restyled like a sort of Clio V6 Sport they maybe my opinion would change - I hate Clios but that V6 looks fantastic and you won't see many women driving them
RS4_Barry
I've just bought a cooper s as a runabout and imho definately not a girlie car even as standard it's a far better handling car than anything from the vw / audi stable I'm afraid - would paste an s3 through the twisties - would even catch up on my RS6! I went to the BMW dealers last week to buy either a 330 or an M3 and the BMW guys treated me like a piece of [censored] that did not deserve the right to drive on of there cars! (wish they knew my previous history with cars the could have made some money !) Anyway the mini centre were ace gave me a car to drive for as long as I liked and actively encouraged me to hammer it! Long and the short of it is it's a very very quick car, I intend to do a conversion with it also hopefully around the 260bhp mark if possible would should make it blisteringly quick! DuncS3
I drove a Mini Cooper (friends car), and I have to agree with Barry, I thought the handling was a breath of fresh air compared to my S3 Dunc

Woppum
Yeah, it is nice to drive but it is just too small and tacky inside and out for me. My best mate has a cooper and his only complaint is that it does nothave enough poke. He wishes he bought the cooper S, but i wish he bough the works or harrtage, then at least he MAY have a chance against me in a R32! Then again the cooper s works cost £18,000, if iwas going to spend that sort of money iw ould prefur to spend the extra grand and get the ultimate driving hatchback (apart form the r32) the focus rs. what would you prefur the focus rs or the works cooper s
Cooper_S
I own a Mini Cooper S and have had it for 2 weeks. I'm sorry to tell all those persons that disrespects the ability, agility, quickness, handling, and it's performance are quite not much for a girl to be handling with if your going to be racing it like me. I've beat already a RX7 with exhaust system and a Camaro Z28 that brings stock 310hp a VW GTI 1.8T 180hp, A Jetta GLI that has 200bhp. Really would a car like that be girlie like? i don't think so.Ohh and I al most forgot...the best thing in a supercharged mini ...It;s HANDLING,you will rip apart any stock car that has or dos't have a booster(Turbos,Supercharges, etc.) but truely with out arguing or nothing the car is an exellent car to own. I suggest to anyone that gets the chance to buy one,to go a head, you will not regret it... believe me
Woppum
So salvi; what sort of chance do you think it would have on a track against a focus rs, golf r32 or wrx sti, Or is it not fair to make that comparison, without arguing? (don't get me wrong my best mate has a cooper, they are great fun cars)
snez22
the mini isn't about out and out speed and track times. its a fun car. it has a really good image too. old, young, boy girl, rich not so rich all love it. people wave to you in the mini. sure if you wanna race you buy an r32 or focus rs but then you could get a second hand M3 or porsche or TVR too. we pays our money and takes our choice. Woppum
I agree it is a nice fun car which is better than any other car of that size and price (except for the works S, it may be considered over priced compared with the harage) If i was choosing i would choose a mini, handles like a go-kart (except with front wheel drive) My only problem with it is the inside, i think it is nice on the outside, but the inside is a bit placky. Cooper_S
But come on! your talking about a 163hp car! not an STI or RS brother hehehe!! and obviously the prices are not the same.(At least here in PR).Sure, without arguments or anything hehe but still you can't make that comparison. An STi can give you a 13 second in a quarter mile! a Cooper S like it comes the most it would give is a 14.8 or 14.9! now then the car is a fun car and everything.I can asure you that.An r32 hehe man those are cars that are builded up.Look cars that come for the range of price and horsepower that go against a mini(normally) a GTI 1.8T,GTI VR6,Jetta GLI(200hp),PT Cruiser Turbo,New Bettle Turbo, and the rest.It was for you to have an idea. And the Mini in all the comparisons that magazines have made until the date, it has gone over them, by a couple. So ok it's not the greatest car ever nor the fastes and much less the best, but like the say Everyone is diferent and think diferently, but my cooper s is still my #1 pick. man i heard about that John Cooper Works Tunning Kit.but the price is to high. I don't know much about the haretage tunning kit so if any of you have any suggestions on what do you think it is a good idea from any of those kits to put on the car so it could move better I would be glad to see them hehe thanks people.
