NewNiceMrMe
Advice for a friend required guys and girls, so come on: If you were choosing a company car, that can be up to 2 years old, less than 15,000 miles, and MUST fit ALL of the following criteria - what would you get? - Saloon/Estate/Mondeo/3-series/A4 sized - LOW CO2 for low tax - original list price IS important due to tax - diesel, must be a diesel for max economy/tax - not a slouch, but performance isn't a key factor - mile cruncher, comfortable, but not necessarily luxury - transmission not an issue - decent spec
shao_khan
Vauxhall Omega Vauxhall vectra Estate 3.0l TDI SRi. Both very good long term mile munchers, cheap to service, buy and run.
sayerbloke
I`d be tempted to look at a Volvo. Don't know enough about them to know which model falls into those criteria though
Mook
Audi A4 1.9TDI. They run forever and return 45+ mpg. My A4 1.8T sport had covered 180,000+ miles when I sold it and the interior was almost as good as new.
NewNiceMrMe
[ QUOTE ] cheap to service, buy and run. [/ QUOTE ] The cost of servicing, buying and running other than petrol is pretty much irrelevant for them - as it's a company car.
NewNiceMrMe
[ QUOTE ] Audi A4 1.9TDI. [/ QUOTE ] An A4 Avant, or A6, was one of my early thoughts on this. Wasn't sure what CO2 banding they fell into and what they'd get for less than £20k though.
shao_khan
You would get a high spec 1.9tdi A4 avant for less than £20k at less than a year old, I guess you would be looking at S-line models, just pre-facelift.
AntW
My old A4 1.9tdi was code B on road tax, CO2 Emissions: 151 g/km (added by edit) 51 plate, sold 12k private (dealer offered 10k - pfft) so you should get something pretty good for 20k (under a year old I would guess)
NewNiceMrMe
It's the CO2 rating that'd be important. Keep the suggestions coming though. Much appreciated. I'm having a search on Autotrader and MotorsToday to see what is out there in this range.

[/ QUOTE ] Nah, 4 door or Estate they said. Besides, with that spec I suspect your list price would hammer them on tax even though the CO2 rating would be low. What was the price new? NewNiceMrMe
[ QUOTE ] Saab 9-3 [/ QUOTE ] Yes, the Tdi thingy seems to be getting very very popular. I'll look into that for them.

NewNiceMrMe
No it's ok max, i think the 2 doors is a no-no anyway and that list price means the tax would be high for a company car for what they're looking for.
NewNiceMrMe
Just had a look at the new shape 2.0TDi Audi A4. There are a lot at £19,995 and they look okay. Mauritius Blue looks nice too. I'll look up the tax for them and pass it on. I didn't think they'd get a new shape one for that money.

NewNiceMrMe
[ QUOTE ] how about a new passat. they look really nice [/ QUOTE ] Never thought of those. Off to the VW website next! My wife used to have a Passat 1.8T 20v mind you and we had a few problems with it (lots of plastics that broke!). Then again, as it's a company car I guess they won't be too bothered and the company will fix anything that breaks.
shao_khan
But would they want a new shape with that god awful front end?

Lot of spec and decent performance for the £££ [/ QUOTE ] Bit repmobile like isn't it? I know the same can be said of the BMW/Audi's but at least you get a superior level of build too. My brother-in-law has a TDi Ghia too, and he's had quite a few panel fit problems with it and what he calls 'rattle a day' issues.
