Used A4 Cab questions

Hi everyone,

I've just registered here because I'm considering an A4 Cab, 1.8t sport. I understand there is a facelift model coming out soon so I don't really want to order a new car right now, but I also don't want to wait for my cab what with all the nice weather.

So I'm considering buying used then maybe trading in next year when the new one comes out.

I've found a car at an audi dealer that looks good....1.8t sport manual 04 plate, 7K miles, Moro Blue with light grey nappa leather, electric seats/mirrors, light pack, bose, acoustic parking.

Price is £26k.

My questions are:

- Is this a good price and do you think I can haggle down?

- What could i expect to get in part-ex for a new cab in say 8 months time after adding approx 8k miles?

- Any gotchas buying a used cab? What about the warranty, will i get the remainder of the 3 years from-new warranty?

any other advice much appreciated!

thanks

dan.

thanks for the intro!

hmmm, looks interesting, and just up the road from me in north london too.

cabman - pm me if you want to talk about a possible deal.

original questions still stand - later trade-in value being the thing i'm most interested in.

Anyway, back to your questions Dan! grin.gif

The facelift model realease date is yet to be announced but there is a consensus that it may well be available for 06 plate delivery (March 2006).

In my opinion the car you have found is priced at the top end of the scale and probably includes the dealer "sunshine factor" at the moment. I would think you could get a sizeable discount off the sticker price with some hard bargaining.

Regards p/ex value, trading in any car after 8 months is not the best idea but given the residuals on the cab are pretty sound I reckon maybe 22k on the car you have seen (possibly more/less anyone?) so work that into how much you're prepared to pay for it.

Ref the actual car, there are lots of cab drivers on here so they are better placed to advise you on the car's plus and minus points. However you would get the balance of the manufacturer's 3 year warranty whether you buy privately or through a dealer.

CabMan's Moro Blue cab is only 10 weeks old and ticks a few of the boxes you are after:

2005 1.8T Moro Blue/Blue Hood Multitronic Sport, beige nappa leather, heated seats, electric seats, bose, rear sensors, interior light pack, cool-box, Tracker

If you only intend keeping it for 8 months I personally wouldn't let the manual transmission versus Multitronic put you off 169144-ok.gif

thanks milo, much appreciated.

yes i thought the price on the car at the dealer was a bit on the high side, especially when I can spec the same car brand new on drivethedeal.com for only a couple of grand more.

i might see if i can bargain with them, and may take a look at cabmans A4 if he still has it....

thanks again.

dan.

Dan - if you look at the sticky post at the top of the A4 forum, there are some "essentials" about the A4 (including the cab).

I think £26k is far too much money at this stage, they are not doing as well as they were last year on price.

I would also look at a 3.0, you will only be a couple of mpg lower than the 1.8T, it is really nice and smooth and just about has enough poke for that big heavy car.

I sold my cab last month, 2.0 '04 sport auto, £37k new list and 12 months on got £27k for it.

Used on a 1.8T manual with no nav+ etc I would not pay over £23k for one, and I bet you couldn't get a dealer to give you more than £21k for it now and about £18-19k when the new one arrives.

Ask big_dan what he got in the end for his, basically the same spec. as the one you are looking at.

Hmmm, I guess I must do the lottery then...... confused.gif

I have been offered 26K from an Audi specialist, so that is not true. 169144-ok.gif

thanks for the advice guys. i would really like a 3.0 but the insurance goes up quite a bit, although i could perhaps be persuaded....

what does everyone think of this one:

btw, i spoke to the dealer with the 1.8t - he said he could knock £250 off over the phone and maybe more if i came to see the car. I told him i was thinking more along the lines of a £2k discount and he didn't say no but went a bit quiet!

a new one is a bad idea if you want to minimise depreciation loss.

you'll find better deals/prices than that ebay one, but it takes a while to find them.

don't give up 169144-ok.gif

you'd have to wait 8-12 weeks I'd guess.

if they have one in central stock to your requirements, it's 5-10 days to get it, but otherwise it's a factory order.

£25.5k and reserve not met? Too much for an 03 plate.

A new 3.0 s-line rather than sport (half leather, 18" wheels and aluminium fascias) with metallic, BOSE and heated front seats was offered to me for just over £29k by the dealer (the 1.8 s-line with the same spec was £26k).

Dan - have you checked the insurance? I pay £340 ish for a Tdi saloon. The 1.8 s-line cab was around £380 and the 3.0 around £400. The difference between the 1.8 and 3.0 was negligible in my case.

yep have checked the insurance

new 1.8t cab from elephant.co.uk - 950 quid

new 3.0 cab from elephant.co.uk - 1350 quid

these are 10 month policies, with 3 years no claims. bear in mind i live in north london and will be parking the car on the street.

Ouch.

Personally I wouldn't buy new now when there's is a facelift (B7) coming out unless you intend keeping the car for 3 years say.

I would be tempted to sit tight, keep saving and go for a new one when the B7 comes out.

Oh, hang on. That's what I am doing. wink.gif

although, just seen a car i like

A4 cab 3.0 Sport Multitronic

Caribbean Blue / Black Alcantara

Heated & Electric Seats

Electric Mirrors

missing bose and acoustic parking which is a pain, but still a nice car

audi dealer sticker price is £28,450

how much do you think they would take for it?

It's easy to be swept along with decisions like the one you're facing especially when the sun is shining and you want a cab. cool.gif

If you want a B7 cab but can't wait and can afford to take a £3000+ hit between now and next March then fine, go for it.

I wouldn't buy new though. It'll be 12 weeks delivery which puts you into October blush.gif

To minimse any depreciation I would be looking to buy a nearly new car privately and wouldn't blow my budget on getting a higher spec older car. I would buy as new as my money could stretch to and hopefully that way you would maximise the p/ex value of the car come March 169144-ok.gif

I would probably stick with the 1.8 too. You can always look at more powerful engines next year (2.0T FSI or 3.2 blush.gif)

Yeah but it is no secret that Audi are already have a rolling development of the B8 chassis with new engine gearbox mountings. Looking back a generation, the B5 wasn't even on sale for six years before it was replaced. With the RS4 Avant hitting UK shores in 2006, the B8 cannot be to distant. With respect to Audi launching the 'new-chassis' Cab, it only took them a year with the B6: Don't expect them to hang around like BMW are doing with the E90....

Ian

PS: Considered a second hand 3.0 Sport?
