I arrive too early and nobody is in the office yet. Someone eventually arrives but by that time it's too late and for some reason the rain has decided to attack just my left arm and my crotch. So, I arrive looking like I've just pi$$ed myself. Anyway my interviewer has been delayed and I'm left with two people who haven't seen my CV and have no idea what I'm doing there. By the end of it my usual bullish confident interview persona had given way to the driest mouth in the world. I don't think I'll be starting there anytime soon. randellp Posted July 27, 2005 Report Share Posted July 27, 2005 I've had a similar experience - I thought I'd impress by agreeing to a pre-work 0800hrs "informal chat" for a job. I end up spending 25 mins stuck outside in freezing temps as there was no security to let me in, and when I get inside the interviewer turns up 20 mins after our start time, the "informal chat" was half hearted grilling from a guy who I took a fairly instant dislike too as he made it fairly clear I was wasting his time. The whole thing was a disaster from start to finish - and to be honest I was quite happy not to hear back from them. I was not happy with the treatment, and considered a complaint, but then decided against that reasoning that there's not point antagonising potential employers. It feels bad when an interview goes wrong, but every interview is a learning experience, and is as much a chance for you to check out your new boss/premises as they wan to and help you make up your mind if you want the job too. I always think that "it wansn't meant to be", just like when you miss buying a car, or a house or an eBay auction! My favorite thing is whether you get the "meet the colleagues" bit. If you are shown round the office area after the interview, then I take it as a good sign, cos the interviewer wants the rest of the staff to check you out as a potential colleague (another chance for you too). My last interview was a bit on the odd side (odd but good!) - got given a maths problem (for a sales job!) Imagine the earth, then imagine a belt around the earth, now make the belt exactly 1m away from the earth all the way around. Question : How much longer do you need to make the belt ?
