NewNiceMrMe
I cannot stop laughing. This is truly magical. I shouldn't say that. It's horrid really. You remember the Civic Type R post? The one where the guy had bought his wife a black Type R? I was right..... ..the fecker has just come into the office and announced that he skidded off a road last night whilst showing it off to a mate of his. Every panel dented he reckons - and two buckled wheels. Driver and passenger safe (thankfully). Told you so!!!!
AntW
score one for the stereotype. Glad to hear all were safe, hopefully it will be a lesson learned.
MOSE
Saw a red one badly mashed up on side of North Town/Tongham roundabout a few weeks ago, seemed pretty insignificant at the time. I had one up my backside for a few miles last night and let the guy pass me, was quite funny listening to it going past as he was wrecking the gears. Shame looked ok in silver! beez
I use my rear foglights - if it doesn't scare people (who think they're brakes), it pisses 'em off enough to make 'em back off Did matey give details of exactly how it happened? Did he just lose control or initially hit something?

garcon magnifique
A quick flash of the rear foglights is fine in my book - safer than trying to flash your brake lights by left foot braking or something - it's when people drive in perfectly clear conditions with their rear foglights always on that really gets me. They should have their licence taken off them permanently for being too stupid to drive. I wonder if matey in his Civic started to drift wide and lifted off mid corner? Usually what gets 'em in a front driver.

[/ QUOTE ] Have you ever actually tried this? There is no synromesh on reverse gear on most cars, so I don't think you can engage it whilst going forward at any kind of speed, at least not without a hell of a lot of crunching and damage. Feel free to try it and let us know how you get on though, I could be wrong!

[/ QUOTE ] No, you're right, when I whiz into the cul-de-sac and go for a reverse into my driveway, even if the clutch is down and I'm going 2mph forward, it makes that 'I just killed myself' sound And yeah - foglights in clear condish...it's illegal apparently, so they should at least get points It's just stoopid. I don't have front fogs. Which is also just stoopid.

As for flicking the lights or fogs on,well this isn't gonna work too well if you've got a high level brake light.Even a dumb-arse chav is gonna realise that it hasn't illuminated. Omi
Depends where your reverse light switch is and what pattern gate you have... - I can knock my reverse lights on by pushing the lever left for reverse, but my gearbox would appear in the rear view mirror if I pushed forward to engage it. [/ QUOTE ] I am sure I was able to get the reverse lights on in my 1990 3 series company car - not sure if that was by actually putting it in gear or not. My memory may be wrong... I certainly wouldnt do it today, nor would I have ever done it in anything other than a company car! Nor would I advocate anyone else doing it - was just a tongue in cheek comment. Ari
As Omni says, you might have been able to engage the lights before engaging the actual gear, depending on where the switch in the gearbox is, for example by moving the gear lever across the gate to the reverse leg but not actually moving it forward (or backward depending on type) to engage the gear. Think it would get expensive if you tried actually engaging the gear if travelling at any speed!
