Posted elsewhere about my trip to check-out the new S4 today, but I'm thinking it could be the end of my tractor days looming.

Looks great (in Avant form), sounds like £40 grand's worth of car and am just waiting now to see if it goes like stink too.

I can see the end coming in the next few months, so I may have to leave you all in here in a cloud of soot frown.gif You won't be too harsh on me if I do go the petrol route will you ?

Trev, if you do get it, you've got to do SOMETHING to liven up the rear end on that S4

Guess I could have some nakid laydees painted on the back cool.gif

Good point - I'm sure Charactere or Abt or one of the other big companies will bring out some kind of revised body moulding for it after it's been out for a while, so I'll probably do something like that.

Having said that, I am reasonably happy with the way it looks anyway (and I have to get any additional spend on the car past 'er indoors*. wink.gif

* -"'er indoors" - Northern England colloquialism referring to the wife.

Hadn't thought of that Riz - I normally fill the tractor up at the Supermarket.

Guess if I get the car, I'll have to plan my fill-ups a little more carefully.

Fortunately, it'll be a while yet I think as they're on 12-16 week delivery and I am not even close to ordering yet - still need to convince the missus!

  • 4 weeks later...

Ok, I made the mistake of taking the family along to the local Mercedes dealership at the weekend on the hunt for a CLK55 AMG or C32 AMG.

They had neither in, but there was a rather fabulous E320CDi estate in the showroom, which looked the absolute dogs doodahs. "OK", I hear you say, "but it's still a 2wd Mercedes". Well yes, and that might be a problem, but it's an auto, is faster than my 2.5TDi and develops max torque of 500Nm from something like 1900 rpm! Now that is f'kin marvellous, so I may be tempted to stay with oil burners after all. Oh, and according to the specs, I should get better fuel economy with the Merc too - what's that all about ?

On the other hand, they have an ML55 AMG coming in, which will do 20mpg on a good day with a prevailing wind, but it's pretty quick, 4wd and has all the space I need to take the family on holiday. So maybe that's a better option smile.gif

Never thought I'd buy anything other than an Audi again, and petrol at that, but the thought of all that torque from that 320CDi made me think that maybe a Merc wouldn't be too bad, considering I don't often thrash the car enough to cause the 4wd to be _that_ much of an asset to safety.

Oh, and I can confirm that the only colour you can order a new Mercedes in is silver yelrotflmao.gif

Sorry Rich, but the S4 really didn't do it for me for the price.

I was counting on getting one too, but now it's all up in the air again, and it's looking more and more like I'll be having a Merc as my next car unless Audi can pull something out of the bag like a 3.2l diesel, in which case I'd go for an A4 Avant and stick to being an oil burner.
