Neimad
So I'm just on my way to work this morning, and what has to be the most blatent disregard of the law happens right in front of me, and by none other than the law its self. I was just coming up to a set of traffic lights that were turning red and I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. I checked my driver's-side mirror only to see a Police bike overtake the car behind me, tuck in briefly, then overtake myself and the other 2-3 cars that are stopping for the light on the wrong side of an island and then run the red light! All of this without any lights/sirens to speak of, and he didn't go blasting off once past the lights so I don't believe he was heading to an incident. I just wished I had got his number place, not that it would have done any good...

theduisbergkid
Someone I know once drove home absolutely bladdered, with 2 mates in the boot "for a laugh", when I took issue with him he said "there are some perks to having a chief constable for a father" .... I do hope this was a one off ....
danksy
Thats bloody shocking, if his father was a chief constable then he should be behaving more reponsibly not less. Imagine the local newspaper headlines if he had been caught? No excuse for drink driving...sorry.
Snail
Didn't someone on TSN spot the police using the blue lights to get to the kebab shop?

garcon magnifique
I don't think as good citizens we should stand in the way of a police officer and his evening shift kebab...

A3Floyd
My advice is to keep quiet! A friend of a friend once made a complaint about his local plod (cant remember what, exactly) and they persecuted him for months afterwards - raided his house, tore his car apart looking for drugs, constantly got pulled over... you name it, they did it. He was a seriously marked man. In the end, he moved home, got a new car and luckily it all stopped. It shows how corrupt some police are. Not all of them of course, but it only take a few bad eggs to make someones life complete hell.
shao_khan
I dont know what you are complaining about - you saw a Policeperson without a speed camera - that must be cause for celebration surely?

Mollox
[ QUOTE ] Didn't someone on TSN spot the police using the blue lights to get to the kebab shop? [/ QUOTE ] That'd be me! I've since determined that 1:45am (every night!) is the hour of the Force Kebab. They just swoop onto it without fail every day! Oh I've also seen a police squad car driver driving down Great Portland Street NOT wearing a seatbelt AND chatting away on a mobile phone! Nobody's perfect, that's all. Not everybody can be as professional and diligent as a Smitten!
ian_m
[ QUOTE ] . Not everybody can be as professional and diligent as a Smitten! [/ QUOTE ] Why thankyou Ok, Police vehicles/drivers are actually exempt from some traffic laws, ie bollards/islands, red lights, speed. As long as the driver can justify this manouvre then they are exempt, blue lights arent always used although they are supposed to be at traffic lights so this one does osund like the biker was at fault!!! (Yes I did just criticise another cop ) On the subject of seatbelts, Police drivers are actually exempt from wearing them, that is a legal exemption and is included in road traffic law! [/ QUOTE ] Mr Smitten sir, surely not! One would hope it is only where they need to get out of the vehicle quickly or defend themselves, not ripping along in a high speed pursuit. We had a young off duty traffic cop injured in a very dramtic head-on yesterday on the main road home to my place. The other driver, a 50yr old woman died instantly. Her Subaru Outback was just missing forward of the A pillars.
garcon magnifique
The trouble is many high speed pursuits end with the 'suspects' decamping and legging it, which means Mr Smitten and co have to follow suit - preferably without strangling themselves on their seatbelts... What's the protocol in that situation A_S ?
ian_m
The exemption is for anytime!!! but to be honest I wear one in pursuits or "follows" as they are now known to be "PC" You can usually tell when they are going to decamp by the road or location. But in general the legal exemption means Police dont have to wear seatbelts at all
Rustynuts
I was driving between Darlington and Barnard Castle yesterday, and it reminded me of an incident last year. I was on the same stretch of road, single carriageway but fairly fast and very straight in places with some challenging corners. I was in the van and was doing the maximum on one of the straights (which is about 65 in the van) when a black Astra with a spoiler on the back went caning past me at about 100 mph, closely followed by another car, I forget the make. They disappeared into the distance like merry hell, with little regard for speed limits etc. What should I see when I get to Barnard Castle? The two cars in question parked outside the Police station, with 2 uniformed plods leaning on the bonnet having a chinwag and a laugh, mimicking steering wheel movements etc. with their hands. Must've been late for work I suppose.
