With so many speed cameras, police cars & plainclothes cars, I have to ask why do we still buy fast cars?

I feel my car is wasted on these roads, cos whenever i want to have fun in it, i'm shiit scared of getting stopped, so it isn't fun!

Everyone knows some roads where they can "give it some" ECLIPSe.gif In reality, the police cannot be everywhere 169144-ok.gif

AS is right - Everyone has a favorite bit of 'secret' road they cam give it some................. smirk.gif

I feel like this about the bike sometimes but 2 or 3 trackdays a year make up for it. Also I'm always out at about 7am to 1pm ish in the summer - safer for me and my licence 169144-ok.gif

Nobody has a 150mph car to actually drive at 150mph regularly (with the exception of certain law enforcement officers perhaps sekret.gif).

However it means that at lower speeds the car is so much more effortless. Many years ago I had a base model Peugeot 309 1,300cc. Now that car would do 95mph which is 25mph over the absolute legal maximum in this country, so in theory it should be as fast as I'd ever need. But what a gutless asmatic pile of dung.gif that thing was. YOu'd find yourself constantly dropping a cog on the motorway just to get past someone before they pulled out again. Overtaking was a no go zone. I was constantly thrashing the thing, banging up and down the gears. Dreadful car.

My current car will do 140mph and in truth (being an older git than I was when I had the Peugeot plus more cameras etc) I probably drive it slower. But the joy of being on the motorway, car in front moving over, and being able to just squeeze an extra inch of throttle movement and surge effortlessly past rather than banging down a gear, foot to the floor and engine screamng to get past.

Powerful cars aren't (just) about going fast, they're about how they perform at sensible speeds, just like decent hi fis have amps capable of ear bleeding volume. Not so you listen to it at thet level but for the extra power, response and control at sane levels.

And they just feel so good... ECLIPSe.gif

I always use the Hi Fi point when I think I have to justify my Re-Map to anyone. It's a good argument 169144-ok.gif

It's also why some of us want a bit more bass from our Bose , Ari.............. wink.gif

Because we can, really... 169144-ok.gif

Most people I know now have fixed camera detectors and a few have laser diffusers (although these are illegal to use on UK roads). As long as you drive safely and within the limits of you and your car, I don't see that there's a problem.

Life would be a bit too boring if we all had 1 litre boxes to drive around in... suicide.gif

No, that's right, nor 180 mph cars to drive regularly at 100mph or over, as that would be naughty... sekret.gif

I agree completely about the ease of driving at 'lower' speeds though; a big grunty car certainly makes it hard to be stuck behind sub-limit traffic for long.

grin.gif because chicks dig them jump.gif

Or more accurately, we like to think they do. In reality chicks dig cars that are "a pretty colour" grin.gif

MIne's for effortless driving, and all range grunt (technical workd for torque), not for going flat out. However I can still do that at track days.

But more importantly it's for the noise and scaring the poo out of the Chav's and Boy Racers of this world and hopefully make them realise that they shoud stop modding and wasting £millions and buy a decent car.
