The looks and style of the PC above are to our liking, but wouldn't fit with VW marleting / sales plans for the MKV R32. Anyway, that PC looks more like what an R36 should be like. [/ QUOTE ] i agree - these cars look good, but a big attraction of the mkv for me is the understated look. I like the fact that only people who really know their cars will fully appreciate it. v6tas Posted November 6, 2005 Report Share Posted November 6, 2005 Exactly why my mate opted for the A3 Quatro, the "understated" look. However, IMHO the MK4 R32 is the perfect "inbetween" car. Has the power to turn heads but with a subtlety that cant be matched by any other car. VW really hit on a winner with the MK4 R32. Attention given to all the right areas to give perfect balance of aggressiveness but also subtlety. I'm not nearly as keen on the mk5 R32 but has any photoshop whizz tried "bodycoding" that daft chrome grill? It looks stupid on the new Passat and even more daft on the Golf. Some London dealers have R32's in the showrooms already. Staff doing product training at Silverstone with the R32 have a black dsg and a silver manual to play with (only 2 cars). My pre order and one other have taken 2 of the slots available at the moment - though there is a nice blue Mk 1V at the dealers - under 25,000 miles and under £20,000. bigbubba Posted November 8, 2005 Report Share Posted November 8, 2005 I was lucky enough to drive the Mk IV R32 today. What I am about to say is purely my own opinion and the comments were quite varied today. We also drove the BMW 130 Sport, Audi S3 DSG, Subaru Impreza STI. The Subaru was outclassed instantly by its poor quality, although it obviously was the fastest. The Audi was very very refined as you would expect but I wasn't too keen on it as it had a very light grey interior that spoilt the car. We drove 2 R32's, one manual with the std. seats in leather and the other was DSG with the recarro seat option. The DSG is very very well mated to engine, the response was superb. The manual was good fun to 'stir the box' but it is quite hard to get smooth changes when changing down. Now then, the BMW. This was the 130, it felt very smooth, the six cylinder engine has a lovely exhaust note. The BMW in my opinion was the most driver involved car, but the big downside was that it was very very bumpy. We noticed that with 2 people in the back of the car the suspension was sat right down! I think it was very close between the R32 DSG and the BMW 130 Sport. The question that needs asking though is, are these two cars really competitors? I dont think so, I think the R32 is far more specialised and the 130 Sport is in my opinion for people who are a little more concerned about the neighbours opinion. In conclusion, The R32 is a fantastic car, it had by far the best interior of any of the cars but I would stick to the standard seats in leather, the reccaros have an awful tacky plastic back and the standard seats are very supportive. The R32 is going to be a great classic, but if I was given the choice I would spec a GTI. I think the GTI would put a bigger smile on my face on a cross country blast. The supply of the R32 is very very limited. There are going to be many many dissapointed peopl out there. There will only be 400 cars for the UK over the next 12 months. Every dealer will get a car and then there will be approx. 100 cars to satisfy customer orders for the next 12 months. I heard stories of dealerships taking 15 - 20 depsoits for customer orders. As there are only 100 'excess' cars for customers and there are over 250 delaerships in the UK I dont know what they are going to do! If anyone has got any questions, I will try to answer them.
