bigbubba
No, some dealers are planning on selling them asap, some however want to demo (and thrash) them first! Bubba

TP27
I am still waiting for a confirmed date when my Dealer will actually have the Demo car in his possession!! Until then, I've no idea when a test drive will be available! In terms of spec, I'm going off the Recarro seat option, most GTi owners say the standard sport seat, in leather trim, is more than adequate. I have a copy of the R32 Spec of the VW web-site and I've seen the German R32 brochure on their de. web-site but has anyone seen a UK R32 brochure yet? TP27
Gone Craig, it went whilst I was deciding!! I got first option but took too long. In the end, it'd have been the wrong car for me anyway!!

jaydash
Interesting insight into the car Bubba, especially your comments about the seats. I think I'll be making a 'which ones to go for' post in the new year, when more owners have their cars. The magazines say go for the Recaros, but can anyone confim that the standard seats are identical to the (very smart) GTi ones? If the Recaros are anything like the optional Mini Cooper S 'Works' seats, they offer more side support but pin you in way too much for everyday driving IMO, even if you're not a fatty! i.e. not broad enough across the shoulders etc. BTW, is there 'material' available on the new R32 seats, as no mags seem to have shown or mentioned anything other than leather? (Bubba, have any dealers in Dorset or Hampshire got cars yet, am interested in seeing the Met. Blue and Silver, 3-door only. Will contemplate DSG some other time). TP27
Sports seats in the R are the same as in the GTi. Spotrs seats come standard with a cloth finish and leather on the Recarro's and Sports seats is extra. Likewise, I'm erring for the Sport seat rather than the Recarro but seeing both in the flesh will help me decide....some chance of that!!

I think I saw them on an r32 in one of the vids on here they do make it look a bit van like ... although handy if carrying valueable cargo. BTW What are your current wheels ? a mk4 ? vw55olf
The Recarros I don't really like the look of, if I use the car 3 or 4 up then it seem to me they will appear "unsociable", from the pictures they look ugly and somehow out of proporition to the interior of the ca. I don't like the idea of the bare shell on the back of the seats - the only plus point for me is the ease of fitting full harness so, on balance I'll stick with the standard in leather - personal preference I know. vw55olf
May - the glass was certainly an option on the dealers list when I was there on Tuesday @ circa +£150 - I looked at a Passat with the darkened rear glass and in normal daylight it was only just noticable. [/ QUOTE ] Good points, but I've had Recarros in other cars, and afterall its the TOP-O-THE-LINE Golf so it should have the best seats in the house! Standard seats available on other cars isn't good enough!! I've been a bit spoilt in the MKIV R32 (Konigs), but I'd need to have the same or better in a car that is going to cost more. ALso, if I had any in the rear they should be damn well appreciative of the fact they're in an R32 and not be concerned with what the rear of the seats look like The R32 is a sports car and I expect it to be fitted with the best VW can fill it with, but it seems that VW are not interested in playing that game with this version of the R32!!!! CraigR
I was in Aberdeen VW this morning to enquire, they are expecting 5 - 6 cars as their full allocation for this/next year , and were asked by VW to use their first as a demo, these cars are all spoken for, the manager will not use one as a demo,no test drives for anyone!!, all will be sold to the people who have paid their deposits. They did not know when their first one would arrive, and the info they are recieving from VW UK is slow......
jagseven
I've now seen an R32 in the metal at my dealer this afternoon. It was a 5 door in silver with leather and DSG. I thought it looked better in the metal than in photos. The dealer told me it was a "showroom car" only but since I had paid a deposit ages ago he will let me drive it next week. However it will only be a short test drive as they do not want to put many miles on it. He said no one else will be allowed to drive it. Since the spec is very similar to what I might choose I asked if I could have the car after my test drive. He thought this might be possible, but would need to discuss with his boss....... If I wanted to spec my own car he thought 16 weeks for delivery was likey unless they could source a car already in the system that exactly matched my spec. mattcony
Seen my 1st one today aswell at the NEC Birmingham @ the MPH 05 show with Clarkson. Got to see it drive around the arena then got a close up look afterwards in the paddock. Looked nice, sounded nice when they gave it a boot in the display but to be honest it just looks like a std golf with some over fancy wheels. The finish on the silver grill at the front isnt as shinny in the flesh as it looks in all the photos + the one i looked at in side only had the std seats which looked poor Will wait for a test drive still but not really sold on it cheers matt

Soulboy
There is a silver demo 3 door with DSG at Smith Knight Fay (Stokport) if anyone in the Manchester area fancies a test drive. They offered me the first test drive in it yesterday, but I had a look at it and didnt bother. As Mattcony says, it just looks like an ordinary mk5 with fancy wheels (but the chrome nose didnt look to bad on a silver car). It didnt sound as loud as the mk 4 either. I may get one in the future, but it doesnt raise my pulse like the mk4 did and I will see what takes my fancy after New Year.
