rjgreen4
My symphony unit also crashed yesterday with the phone locked on, spoke to audi assist and they said that there is a current software issue and that I would need to take the fuse out to reset it, did that and it is ok. Chav
You can reduce the rattles by oiling the roof hinges. Some people mention that oil may rot rubber bits, but haven't had any problems and I oil the roof regularly. Squeaks where the top of the windows go into the roof can be reduced by cleaning the inside of the groove and the top of the windows too. Wind deflector can rattle too. Felt pads can fix that (where it pops into the body) ...SilvercabMeister came up with that one. I can get 550 miles from a tank if I drive at 60mph, but who the hell is going to drive at that speed? At a cruising speed of 80-85, 450-500 is still poss from the tank in the 3.0, so S4 shouldn't suffer too much with extra speed either. I only use cruise at speed cameras. I can get better economy using my foot rather than the cruise control.... it often accelerates up inclines to keep the speed constant, which burns more fuel than allowing the speed of the car to vary slightly. I'd probably fall asleep if I left cruise on too much anyway
Alastair_A3
pretty impressive figures for V8 and V6 engines i must say. Chav how many miles has your cab done now?
rjgreen4
what sort of figures have people got on their DIS 2 for mpg, when I collected the car it was on 16mpg!!!!! since miss daisy took over a week ago it is now at 21mpg.
Biscuits
When I first gort the car my DIS 2 (rest when pickit it up from thrashing dealer... 16.6mpg!) average was 21-22mpg... but as I've began to 'enjoy' the v8 more and more, my DIS 2 is now bang on 19... done 5,000 miles. RJGREEN... there is more oxygen in cold air (hence the use of intercoolers on turbocharged cars) and the 1.8T engine benifits from it. Problem on a short journey into work is the engine poors fuel in while warming up... and the V8 seams to flood fuel in as mine shows av 11mpg till warm! I usually get 250 miles to a tank, scrape 300 on a long normal 'motorway speed' run.
rjgreen4
thats strange, every morning when i set off for work my DIS shows the milage from the previous day then immediately drops to 15 as soon as i set off. P.S How good does the V8 sound on start up in the mornings and tick over when the choke is on
Daz
My DIS 2 is around 19mpg On my drive to work this morning (6 miles) with average London traffic my DIS 1 was 13.5mpg

Chav
[ QUOTE ] Black Nappa Recaros - what seats are in mine are they Recaros? Does it say Recaro on them?? [/ QUOTE ] S4 cab doesn't have Recaros because the seat fitments are different. Black with piping looks fab regardless
Biscuits
Says Recaro on front and rear seats... very nice... I do however REALLY like the 2 tone piping on the cabs, nearly bought one with black and white piping... then the missus got pregnant!
lmmlmmam
[ QUOTE ] Trully brilliant car - but it does rattle more than a saloon - is that due to more flex with the lack of a static roof and need to get an arm rest sorted out and cruise control. [/ QUOTE ] Yes the do all seem to rattle a bit. As Chav says with a bit of work you can reduce this but I've never been sucessful in eliminating all creaks and rattles. lmmlmmam
[ QUOTE ] I have managed to increase my DIS 2 from 16 when I collected the car last friday to 20.3mpg through careful driving. The DIS 1 shows just above 30 on my regular drive to work, strange that this morning it struggled to get above 28, might have been something to do with the temperature being -2 Deg C. [/ QUOTE ] I reset DIS2 everytime I fill up. Generally get ~23 for the tankfull. Never seen a whole journey more than 26.6mpg. Haven't got a clue how you managed to get >30. I shalln't be competing. As already stated the cold start makes a massive difference, but regardless I often get variation of over 2mpg for my commute for no particularly obvious reason. Of course, a little bit of fun, taken at every safe oportunity, can very easily affect your whole journey average by much more than 2mpg.

rjgreen4
No one could get near me with my A4 2.0T Quattro S Line- I managed to show 690 available in my tank. rjgreen4
I now know that Optimax is definitely more efficient than other fuel. I filled up with Optimax last night and this morning on the way to work I did the same as normal, drove like Miss Daisy, I must however let it be known that I only do this on a Monday to Friday (Do like to play at the weekend) on the way to work as I leave the house at 7:15 for a 30 minute journey to lake the little one to the nursery near my office, the nursery does'nt open till 8am, so If I give it beans then I will be sat at the nursery for ages etc. Anyway the MPG was higher as you can see from the pic - 2mpg higher and I recon I could get it better as I had a few spurts of power. See pic attached Or alternatively it could be the efficiency of Radio
Booster
In order to get this economy you are not cruising in neutral are you? Gearboxes and the Quattro system really don't like that. Read your manual and it says that towing should be kept to the absolute minimum for that reason.
rjgreen4
No, its all motorway from home to the office, pretty flat as well, M53 to M56 of off at sweaty Runcorn

Out of purely academic interest, what speed are you cruising at?
Chav
Why are you so keen on getting good economy RJ, as I thought you got a company fuel card? I don't think I'd be able to resist pressing the accelerator all the time myself! Hmm. That'd be expensive at 25-30K miles a year!
rjgreen4
My dad is the managing director of the company I work for and I said that I could prove to him that If I drive sensibly to and from work that those sort of figures are possible from the S4. I also had to justify that Optimax is better than normal unleaded as the tell tale AA Paytrack statement says that it is optimax and there were questions raised about why and that it is more expensive. I have justified everything now so I will stop

EssFour
I don't know how you do it. I commute 25 miles to work with 20 miles being on motorways and the best I get is 26mpg. Currently running at 24.7mpg combined but that involves some sssslllloooowwww driving, often pedestrian at times. Hats off to you.
