NewNiceMrMe
As per Ari and Scotty, sorry, but count me out on the new welcoming with open arms. This was very very plotted deceit over a period of months. I've done a lot of searching the web and TSN, looking through posts, and engaged in PM's with various TSN-er's throughout this 'investigation' process. The results of that are sufficient to tell me this was more than a few bored lies. Opportunities were plentiful to come clean. I was no saint myself in my early days here, but never ever did I set out to engage in a game with people that, believe it or not, are actually real. I don't encourage people to leave and maintain that is a decision for them. If McCombie is staying then no-one can have any real objection. However, I'm afraid I won't be joining in the threads he posts in. Sorry mate, but you can't be trusted. It was all far too devious for my liking. I will say this though, if you can prove me wrong then I'm as capable for forgiveness as anyone else. I just think you have an Everest to climb. peterb
Perhaps all of these people who are unwilling to forgive are perfect - have never made a mistake, or error of judgement in their lives! I know that it will take a while before we can accept anything McC posts, without a niggling doubt about the veracity, but the admission (if genuine) has taken a lot of courage and he ought to be given a chance to prove himself. Clearly, he is very interested in cars and TSN is a place where he can share that interest. ...but a Rover 111, that is taking the pi55!

I was just trying to say that people are often not what they seem at first, and can turn out to be a lot nicer than their first impression leads you to believe! [/ QUOTE ] Let me just clarify what I'm saying. My judgement comes as a result of lots of digging and reading almost every post he's ever written, both here and on the other forums on which he has been a member. Car's are not the only fictious items. He created sons, a wife, a job, an office that he couldn't access during the Festive period, a No.2 who was travelling to London with him - in other words, he created a whole fictious life. I'll take everything that comes to me about my first 8 weeks on TSN, because the reality is that things changed rapidly after that. However, and I'm grateful for Chrispy pointing it out, my own initial arguments with TSN-ers came more through volumes of posting and a misinterpretation (on my part) on how an online community functioned and thrived happily. Total and utter deceit for a prolonged period of time is something altogether different in my opinion. Couple that with the fact that Pag was outed on TSN very recently and surely there has been ample opportunity for McCombie to admit his sins. I also feel somewhat less charitable towards him because his 'work' has tainted my opinion of what and who to trust in general. It's made me highly sceptical in fact, and somewhat wary of other users in general. It shouldn't do - because I know many TSN-ers - but it has. I pity him and hope he recovers from whatever prompted him to do this, but ask yourself about the timescale. Two full months. Thousands of posts. We're talking about the complete creation of an online persona. He's been living a life that never existed. I have to question that in respect of how likely a person it to suddenly say "Yep, hands up guys and girls, I'll be good now." However, I also said he had an opportunity to prove me wrong. Perhaps he will. In reference to Peterb's post about those who can't forgive being perfect. I'm not claiming that, I'm just saying that I find it difficult to jump up and say "Yes, everything is great now, forget it.". In some ways, when you post on the likes of TSN, you're letting people into your life in a small way. You advise them, you support them, you help them and you trust them. To have all of that thrown back in your face as a charade isn't something I take lightly. Who knows, in time, he might convince me differently. I never said I'd ignore or persecute him for all eternity - I said I wouldn't be joining in his posts and that he had an Everest to climb.

Someone commented that those who aren't willing to let this go must be perfect. IMO it's nothing to do with that. It's a case of where we draw the line. If people are now going to say it's ok to come here and spin a web of outright lies and deceit, so long as you own up in the end and apologise, then it's going to become a very slippery slope for the integrity and honesty of this place as a whole. Just my opinion, and worth what you paid for it.

By its very nature, an internet forum has to be based on trust. The only members I've actually met are Trev (S4Dreamer), Munki, and a couple of others who are friends from outside TSN, but post here as well. It would be sad if I started to question my beliefs about TSNers who may not have met other members 'in the real world', as a result of being misled by bogus characters who find it entertaining to undermine the foundations of this great community. lottiefox
Hmmmm.....I have to say that reading these posts I am starting to question my "live and let live" approach. I fully appreciate that for someone to create a fictional life as he did must indicate a deep unhappiness with the actual life they have. And that is very sad, and needs help and a proper life to be created instead. Thats probably clinical help in my view, as this has been one hell of a widespread deception. However, I think MrMe's points are excellent and do put a different spin on things. In some ways, how different is it to someone who poses as someone they are not and lures people into false meetings? Old guys posing as schoolchildren or teenagers and deceiving those they communicate with. The more I think about it the more I do worry about the effects of such a lie on a widely read internet - where indeed you could be anyone, and the potential for abuse is vast. TSN is unlike any other internet site I've ever visited - (it costs me loads more in changing cars anyway) and to lose that trust and community would be awful. I'm not saying I have gone back on my views - I think everyone deserves a chance to be happy, and to prove they are genuine but equally everyone else on the forum deserves the chance to trust those others on here and to accept what is being said. Collease made some good points - he has learned from his experience, and maybe McCombie will do the same. Time will tell. But I can see both sides of this situation.... Anyway, its one hell of a thread and way better than typing the reports that sitting on my desk!!

[/ QUOTE ] Hey - I'm not saying we should forget it, but that we should allow McC the chance to show that he can share his interest in cars in an honest and open manner. I'm guessing that he might need some help and support (professional counselling may be sensible) and that, to some extent, TSN can give that support. There is the person who is "back and no longer a twat". Okay, the lies weren't as substantial, but he did attempt to persist even after his bluff had been called. McC, to his credit, made an open admission as his first post after he was found out - that, together with posting his pic, has taken some guts. He didn't have to - he could have just walked away. I still say we should let him stay, and see how it works out.
