Sparky
Went to VW yesterday to see about getting an R32. He did the classic sucking-breath-over-teeth noise and informed me that I was looking at at least 6 month wait. Is that true? Is demand really that high, or was he just not bothered for a sale? petsy
true but it's because of limited numbers coming to the UK this year.
projone
I was told I would have to wait 6 months aswell and one VW dealer in Leeds had one in stock and added an extra £2000 onto the price cause it was so rare. I called six VW dealer that day and all had stock.... Dont beleive the hype and make some calls and you will find one
Ian_G
I test drove one in mid January and picked up a stock car on the 1st Feb. At that time the dealer had 3 arriving; all 3 sold within a week. If you are looking for a vehicle built to your spec 6 months seems to be it but there are cars coming in. DSG seems to add to lead time. The dealer is not allowed to price new vehicles above list but they can pre-register and sell at a premium as used vehicles. ChrisBuer
6 months? That's not bad! I ordered my car last November and have been told to expect it September/October time this year!!
Matt R
I may happen to know of a dealer with two manual 5drs with leather for sale, one silver one black. PM me for details
ashleywater
There are quite a few manuals kicking about ex demo with mileage on, but DSG car's are like gold dust at the moment............
vindaloo
Ordered my manual, factory spec 30th January, build date is last week March.
jagseven
I've just cancelled my order - I paid £1,000 deposit in September and have been calling the dealer for an update every few weeks. They still cannot confirm that the order has gone through to VW and then started talking about a price increase. So I cancelled the order. I'm now tempted to save a few £s and get a GTI or Focus ST but I'll be looking to buy something that is already in stock !!

jimbor32
Sorry to hear about the rubbish experience you have had with the dealer. That is a disgrace not even getting a build date - I too ordered in September, placing a deposit. The dealer has not exactly been perfect, however they have kept me up to date and assured me that I was the first customer order (i shopped around until i located a dealership that would get me the first customer order) TP out of interest how much profit have you been offered for the car? - is it worth punting or are you having too much fun? TP27
I get my R on 1 September 2006 and I took this "interim" car (of a lesser spec than my choice spec) to tie me over. I'll get my money back in full, put it that way, especially (apparently) as it's DBP. There is a market for new cars and if I had one on order (and was considering cancelling 'cos of delivery delays), I'd take it and sell in privately as Joe Public (walking into a dealership) will not get an R until late 2007 otherwise. swil00
[ QUOTE ] Focus ST [/ QUOTE ] I have to admit that this was on my list too... The price was tempting, but after taking a look at it, it just didn't have special feel of the R... (Evern with the Leather recaros for £20K Yes, you have to wait a while for an R, but its the old case of supply and demand... Like TP said, if someone wants a car enough, then'll pay a premium price for it if they have too. With the exception of the RS, Ford always built more cars than they can sell so the ST may well be a long term car, but doubt it'll be one to keep for just a couple of years. The thing that bugs me about limited supply of "select" cars is that there will always be folk out there that'll buy that car as soon as it becomes available just to sell it on for a profit.. That'll always be the case too so long as there is folk out there daft enough to pay the premium price..
jagseven
There is no doubt in my mind that the R32 is a superb car and if I really want one now I suspect I could find one if I phone around enough VW garages, but after 5 months of waiting I'm now less inclined to spend £28k+ on a new car that I know will quickly depreciate by £10k, even if values hold up well in the first year. I'll probably just stick with my 2-year old XJR for another year now - after all, a 400bhp sofa on wheels still has plenty of appeal. The problem with the Focus ST (I just remembered) is it only comes as a 3-door and I need 5-doors.
swil00
Very much doubt that the R will loose £10K in the first year. I hope it won't anyway... Lost £6K on my MKIV in 2yrs... If your into the ST, they do it in a 5dr too. Saw it in Auto express a few weeks back..
ashleywater
I think 10K depreciation in the first year is being a bit pessimistic!!! Going on the MK4 and the limited availability of the MK5, particulary the DSG version, cant really see, that level of depreciation. Just come back from test driving a couple of Audi's including an RS4, and honestly, hand on the old ticker, would'nt swap the R32 for any of them....... Yep! I was surprised to, very, very surprised........... Feeling very happy about spending 28K now, after comparing it to cars which cost 30K plus more, in the RS4 case, a whopping 28K more!!!!!!! Came away smiling, because I think the MK5 R32 is an absolute steal, value wise, for what you get, it does everything so well, and combined with DSG......brilliant........ jagseven
Ahhh.....if the Focus ST is available with 5 doors I might well take a look. Thanks.
Smudge
It's a worthy car. After a good 40 mins TD, I was impressed. Still not an R32 though. That was clear when I stepped back into the car afterwards. But at around £10k less, it's a bloody good alternative, and better than the GTi - IMHO. edit:Great quality there!!!! Sparky
The dealer told me today that he's not allowed to order any more for a while. He's used up his allocation until March. Does this sound right too?

Does this sound right too? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, the next opportunity for any Dealer to order a car will be 1st March 2006. Even then, VW HQ will dictate which vehicle (and numbers of vehicle) the Dealership can order be it Passat, Polo, Golf, Jetta etc. It's a waiting game. You may find your Dealer gets an allocation of 1 or 2 R's in March or none at all. The next opening to the Dealer will then be 1 April and so on. It's frustrating for you AND your Dealer unfortunately.
rs32
guess this happens with lots of products to a certain extent but it's a very clever management ploy for creating and controlling a market.
Soprano
6 months doesnt sound too bad to me - Ive been waiting a year since I first expressed an interest at the dealership,(granted they werent available then) and the car has only rolled off the transporter this afternoon. With regards to premiums ive been offered a profit on mine twice already and I havent even got it yet.

xscreamsuk
Spoke to my dealer today, they have just ordered numbers 2 and 3 on their list, and I'm number 4, so might be able to place order at start of next month.
