I know I'm going to get some stick for saying this ....BUT, just had a good look around the new RS4 in red, not impressed, that alloy mat finish on mirrors and window suround is going to scuff off very easy and looks cheap. Interior looks nice but understated for a 50+K motor, the red just looks down market...... confused.gifblush.gif

When you say 'matt' is the silver matt or are you talking about the black matt option?

The mirrors and the alloy window surounds are an anodosed mat finish and it looks cheap, the mirror cases look like they need cleaning!!! that finish will quickly mark up.UHOH7.GIF

I had the 's' matt mirrors on my S6 and RS6 and they stand up ok actually.. more so than a paint option..

Not sure about the matt around the windows though confused.gif

Dave you must have a close look yourself, it looks like a very thin coat on window frames, mirrors; 169144-ok.gif I think I would have them colour coded personaly.

I have been in today and had a good look round a car identical to the spec i ordered, misano red, tech pack and a few other little bits.

I feel very disapointed in what i saw frown.gif From the exterior,as said above, the matt finished trim looks very very cheap it gives a very bland appearance and lacks the quality feel of the bright chrome finish on previous s/rs cars. The front grills are also a bit of a let down, not very strong looking and dare i say it a little chavvy looking.

The interior is also spoiled by the cheap matt chrome finish, even the flat bottomed sports wheel looks poorly finished wih the same dull chrome on the bottom section, the dash does not have the look of quality that my last b7 s4 had with the piano black finish and the bright chrome surrounds. Other than the seats, it just an A4/S4 interior, very very poor by audi.

This is one car that i will now, definately not be spending my £55k on, when i walked into the showroom and saw it sitting there, i really expected to feel very excited and it make my wait until 28th June even harder, i was left wondering what all the fuss is about.

If i parked my old S4 next to it, other than the flared arches it just says a4/s4, very disapointed.

O dear that is a disappointment, i was hoping for it to be a serious mean machine. From the pictures and the reviews i think it looks great inside but i have been worried it will look a little bland. Ive got to see it properly in the flesh. Autocar said it had a cabin that looked well worth 55k....

[/ QUOTE ]Go and see it for yourself.

Before I put the deposit down I had a look at the Black one at Cardiff Audi, looked pretty good to me.

Suppose it will and wont be to some peoples tastes.

Wopps, with what your mother drives, and the cars you have driven i would be pretty sure you will be disapointed by it, its just a well specced S4 inside, which i felt after having an s4 was just a little poor in a range topping car.

I remember the first time i had a run in a B5 RS4, i had just collected my first R32, and the feeling of quality in that RS4 made the golf feel inferior, i expected that quality look and feel when i got in that car today, but it just was not there smirk.gif

Well i love my golf, I think the Mk4 is fantastic looking both inside and out, and is almost an unbeatable driving experience. I get very attached to cars, been to test drive a few for me, but they never quite the same feel of satisfaction the golf gives me (M3 CSL included!). I think what it could be is, as soon as i saw a pic of the golf, i knew thats what i want, i never had that with any other car until the RS4 came out. I wil reserve judgement until i see it. 169144-ok.gif

Are you sure??? I thought that all the 'S' cars had bright finish whilst the 'RS' had matt. As Dave has said, I have no problem with the matt finish on my RS6, which is coming up to 3 years old.

Well I sat in a red RS4 at the Piccadilly 'forum' on Wednesday, and IMHO the interior is up to Audi's usual exemplary standards and in no way a disappointment.

I don't think the exterior trim and mirrors look or feel cheap in any way, quite the opposite in fact. Any smooth metal surface will mark easily, polished or otherwise - all the more reason to treat it with care.

Those seats ARE amazing notworthy.gif

Its wait and see at the minute, i have a few alternatives offered by the dealer, maybe even a wait for the larger engined Q7's next year.

Peter, my comparison was made against my last s4, black with bright chrome finish, it look much better than the misano with the matt mirrors and trim.

Okay - well, the satin matt finish is a feature of the 'RS' models, polished is a feature of the 'S' models. It sounds as though you just don't approve of the RS style. However, I can assure you that the matt finish is perfectly solid and durable.
