P_G
A question I was posed by a friend who is looking at buying a year old A4 Tiptronic Quattro saloon. He initially said a diesel to which I said 'which one, 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0?' Similarly being known as the car obssessed person I am in the office, another colleague is weighing up whether to get a new B7 A4 3.0 TDi S-Line Quattro Avant or similar spec A6. Bearing in mind there is a good £6K difference without adding toys, however he has two kids and a dog and £6K is a fair amount in anyone's pocket. Which would people buy in both situations? (the A4 vs A6 debate car will be on PCP) By the way, I did try and convince them of V8 power but they're family men and Newcastle supporters so their money goes elsewhere, what a waste! Phantom
I actually looked at the A6 3.0 TDi as well, but I thought it was too big for me, I do like big cars but at this stage in my life and without a family it was overkill. I then looked at the 3.0 Quattro Avant, wasn't too keen on the saloon, bit more practical and being a 'lifestyle' estate I thought it would suit me better than the A6. I have heard that the 3.0 is very Quiet, CraigR will testify to that , but Ari and A_S have said that the 2.0 TDi is not bad too. I guess it is all down to budgets etc, but if I had to go for a diesel I would go for the 3.0 V6, more torque, much quieter and smoother than the 2.0TDi. As the 3.0 is a newer engine I think it will be more economical than the 2.5, could be wrong on this. Despite all this I still ended up ordering a 3.2FSi Cabriolet
Sponge
I parked next to a black A4 3.0 TDi S-Line Quattro Avant the other day and it looked lovely. When I come to replace my A4 I'll be giving one serious consideration. The A4 is big enough for us at the moment, but if we have another sprog in a few years I think we'll need some extra space - which is where the A6 comes in. lmmlmmam
The A6 is a more modern design than the A4 and it shows. I reckon it's also more competative price wise than you suggest. If I was in the market for a tin top I'd look very seriously at the A6. On the diesel lumps, the 2.0 uses a different injection system (Pump Duse) to the V6 engines (Common Rail). Whils the PD enignes deliver good poke the common rail engine ARE more refined.
