Accoustic parking sensors - distance adjustment.

Following a post in the A4 forum I mentioned that my park distance sensors went to a solid tone (ie as close to obsticle as will register) when the car was still a foot or more away from the wall or other car etc.

There was a suggestion that this could be adjusted via VAG-COM to bring the distance down. Just wondered if anyone had experience of this?

Ari,

I think this is normal. The parking sensors on my S3 also produce a continuous tone when the distance is about a foot. I can understand why you want to adjust it though. I too would prefer some indication within the 1 foot distance as to how close I was . In fact this is the most important bit !......most people can judge distances of more than a foot without a sensor. It seems a bit odd that they set it up this way n'est pas ?

Cheers,

R

Couldn't agree more re the 1 foot!

Still, there's one other, more annoying thing about parking sensors. You get used to them and every now and again they have a little nap and don't beep. Like last month when I reversed into a low wall EEK2.GIF

Thank god I was going slowly, really slowly in fact. Still left some scratches but you really have to be looking

Its the rolling back on a hill without engaging reverse that can catch you out. I've never had mine not work when they should have though...

Regarding the 1 foot thing, according to the dealer this is in case (as an example) the parking sensors are picking up the bumper of the car you are reversing up to, but not the tow bar so it gives a margin for error.

I suspect its so old biddies with a 1/2 minute reaction time don't keep backing into things cos they don't come to a halt quick enough when the tone goes solid so its giving them a greater margin of error.
