Calm Chris
[ QUOTE ] feckin hell! no need to go off on one - if you think im wrong, then say so, but theres no need to be offensive. ETA: This is My opinion: get caught at 138MPH, a ban should be in order for the law to be a decent deterrant. I don't like to see anyone banned, and on reflection to be measured over that length of road it must be a big multi-lane road. best of luck to you on getting the shortest ban possible, but if the law is working, a ban must be imposed to stop eevryone doing it - thats just my opinion, and if you all disagree (which many of you do) feel free to say so - however shark, calling me a cock is not the adult way to say 'I think you are wrong', and if there is a personal problem you have, don't hesitate to PM me. [/ QUOTE ] The problem is, you have to sit on the fence as a non driver, but you have on a number of occasions got a bit gobby and given words that sound as if they come straight from the local conservative, twin suit, JP. There's quite a few cars on here that do 150mph++ Most owners of cars like that will occasionally use loads of 'loud' pedal. Sunday morning I saw 150 on my RA and for a good time (10 minute +) never was the car travelling at less than 130. This was done on a clear 3 lane road with traffic all on the inside lane, headlamps on and with due safety to other around me. If you speed, you will get caught (later rather than sooner, hopefully) and no one cries too much when it happens. It's a risk, and one that people will occasionally take. I'll take such risk, in a car on my own, on a suitable runway, in suitable weather and at a suitably quite time to do so. Ever since I was 16, I have always topped out a moped / bike or car speed. Childish perhaps, but I do need to make sure it does what it says in the owners manual. Back on post, I'd go for 60 days, £600 for 118 mph with a letter from the employer stating the car is essential to your work position, The 138 is nonsense, that is the speed the police had to get up to to catch you up and that's not your problem. Always wondered why you could arrest the police for owning up. I mean when they pull you over and say "I've done 138 mph to catch you up", is that not an admission of illegal speed and driving standards? NB. My mentioned speeds, are fictive and in the scale 150 metres per week
malagus
its not an opinion on driving, its an opinion on the law. I can completely understand that someone would want to do these speeds, all i am saying is you break the law in such excess and get caught, then expect to be banned. malagus
OK - im gonna sit on the fence from now on, and say as i dont know where the speeding was done i cant pass judgemnet, and if mods would like to delete my previous posts, it would be appreciated. Sparky
[ QUOTE ] Malagus - you're a cock, you're full of sh1t, and most importantly, you can't drive. It'd be appreciated if you kept your "opinion" out of driving-related posts please, until you can actually formulate your own opinions based on some experience. Sparky
I personally can't see why 118mph on a clear road, little traffic etc is such a problem, but that's in a decent car, looked after etc. Sadly, you can't apply the law to one car, and not the other. Although this does remind me of something Ari mentioned a year ago, about passing another test in order to be able to driver quicker. I wish you well Mark. Think you're gonna get your ass tanned though.

fjfr
The problem is that you'll never be able to do it again, or you'll look like a 'serial offender' and get horrible things like community service, (suspended) or real prison
_Tone_
Good luck markm - I reckon you'll be in the news on this one - thats one heck of a speed to get caught at! Sometimes these JP's, Magistrates like to make speeders a target and they also will want to make an example of you. I hope you are treated fairly - but in this day and age fair doesnt get close to anything "fair". Let us know what happens! W

malagus
right - good luck for getting a low sentance, but at that pace, with today's courts I have a suspicion you are gonna get screwed over good and proper. - depending on what stretch of road you were on, and what time. theduisbergkid
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] over 5 miles! - Im sorry but I cant see in any situation how doing c120 average for 5 miles is safe and responsible - Id hope 6mths min. ban. [/ QUOTE ] In the wee hours of the morning would be one such situation... [/ QUOTE ] 118mph is taking the piss anywhere in the UK at any time or day or night IMHO. Brisel
Bad luck Mark You disobeyed the 11th Commandment - Though shalt not get caught Do lots of grovelling when you get to court, plead guilty, dress smartly, ask about speed awareness courses & explain how you desperately you need your licence. I can't see you avoiding a short ban if the road was empty, weather was ok etc. Good link James Malagus - Keep the noise down, will you? Like you're gonna obey every speed limit when you start driving...
_Tone_
Just one thing - can you get your MD to write a letter? Thats the first peice of advice I received a while (12 years ago) when I got caught! Hope this helps! W

Still hate VW! Feckers!

Brisel
Sounds like a pretty good reason for hating VW! Bad luck for getting a Friday afternoon built car and a wnker of a dealer. They are not all bad. Malagus - VWs aren't the best cars on the road. Any car that is a long way behind me is the best sort! You really are feeling argumentative today Need some and by any chance? Botang
Good luck markm, the speed-trap site helps dispel the myths that many people have for punishments over 100mph. In your case you are undoubtably looking at a ban, as for the length of time I would think 2-6 months. As for Shark, top post mate I think your reaction was spot on

scooby_simon
Mark, Expect a ban unless you have to have your car 100% for work (i.e. travelling sales rep). Book a holiday for the following 2 weeks after the trip to court and they might (just might) ban you for these 2 weeks - expect a large fine. Search for some of my posts on speeding as I got done a while ago (but not for that fast ) Drop me a email / PM of you want any advice, but I would say the outlook is bleak.
