Nelson_R32
I've just come back from a 3 day Holiday in Normandy looking at the D-Day beaches etc and you wouldn't believe the fuel prices. Diesel is actually 15-20 cents a litre cheaper than Petrol I paid 1.18 cents a litre at one garage which is equivilant to 80p a litre!! I haven't seen diesel at that price in the UK since 2003!! So, do the French get taxed differently for diesel fuel or is it just another case of rip-off britain?
Rustynuts
Yep, it's this country. Diesel was always cheaper than petrol, til people started buying lots of diesel cars. Now the same thing is happening with lpg. remember when it was 30p a litre, well it's started drifting up now as more people use it. Diesel in Denmark last year was about 15p a litre cheaper than here.

The local garage to our house in France was about €1.04 when I last checked a couple of weeks back and thats a Shell - supermarkets do it even cheaper (Not that I would use there stuff!). I always try to fill right to the brim with BP Ultimate just before I get on the ferry, saves about £15-£20 per tank!
R32North
We actually have some of the cheapest real fuel costs in Europe, its only the TAX that makes it the most expensive to the end consumer!
M8CKN
Thats goo news as I'm going there for 2 weeks on Thursday. Think i'll just put enough in to get me to Portsmouth then fill up over there.
Lussac
Yep, correct. The local Intermarche near us (in Haute-Vienne) usually sells at about €1.05-€1.08 a litre . I use it all the time as I found that for some reason the car runs very well on it and seem to get higher mpg than using Shell or BP. I too usually fill up just before Calais (and pay anything between €1.15 and €1.18 on the autoroute or about €1.10 at the Auchan outside Boulogne)when I have to travel back to the UK. loddrik
That's nothing, just got back from a tour round the alps, Livigno in N Italy has diesel at 0.75 euro's a litre, I though the prices were a mistake at first but have since found out that for some strange technicality fuel in Livigno is tax free. 0.75 euros FFS!!! djcool
Not bad, fuel prices in France creeping up now! Diesel is about 1.10€ in the cheapest supermarkets, about 1.15€ in the more expensive supermarkets, 1.18€ at branded stations. Autoroutes are about 1.20-1.23€ for standard diesel, and about 1.26-1.27€ for premium fuels (BP Ultimate, Shell V-Power, Total Exellium etc). Lussac
Oh well, going back to France tomorrow night and will fill up at the Shell at the Rely services on the A26 about a half hour from Calais as it's 24hr. I think I have enough in the tank to last 'til then. Didn't know it had gone up so much in the last two weeks but shouldn't have been surprised as it's gone up so much here in the UK
pontyslapper
Just got back day before yesterday and noted the diesel price for the old fella... average is about .987€ a litre in the supermarkets. Me, I was happy paying 1.125-1.139€ for unleaded!
