RNS-E & TMC - Free DVD Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Why have I missed this thread previously? crazy.gif

The wife's allroad is a 55 plate LE with factory-fit RNS-E. Can I still get a free update for it? Sorry to be lazy, but I didn't want to wade through 19 pages of posts if somebody can just tell me yes or no.

They did my 2004 Allroad after convincing them it didn't have MMI and didn''t warrant the £100 labour charge they wanted.

I don't understand what you have against retrofit units???

If this is a reply to Ed then maybe I can help explain ...

Background - Ed has an 07 registered A3 with a retrofitted RNS-E.

If you have an RNS-E in a car registered after March 2007, either factory-fit OR retrofit, then you do NOT qualify for the free upgrade - because Audi assume that all factory fitted RNS-E's after that date will have SW 0550 (and hence working TMC) - and since the official line is that retrofitting is impossible they don't even consider what should happen in that case.

So Ed was just pointing out his personal experience...

Hey my audi a3 had its first service other day they also gave me the tmc upgrade free - but dont notice any difference????

The TMC logo on the bottom line of the RNS-E screen should now be solid instead of hollow.

When you turn on route guidance, you should see TMC on the DIS in green instead of being in red and crossed out.

If you don't see both of those then you don't have the TMC upgrade.

Also if you press the "info" button, it should tell you things.

You'll know it's actually doing something useful, once you see grey lines on the map where there's traffic, or you plan a route and it plans around traffic areas (silently at first, but then if it changes its mind halfway through the journey it says 'warning, your route has been changed to avoid traffic problems' at unexpected moments).

One problem with the routing is that it sometimes steers you away from traffic jams it knows about (major roads with Trafficmaster sensors) and into worse jams which are off its sensor grid (minor roads, usually in town). It's v. good on motorways though 169144-ok.gif

is it possible they have updated it and not given me the new dvd?? i bought the car new in august 05 , and have never upgraded the dvd on it

[/ QUOTE ]

Without the new DVD you'll receive the TMC information but the map won't have the information to make any use of it!

Eject the DVD and see what part number/date is printed on it.
