craigyb
CD based? How old is the car and what CD system is it? The 4x3 RNS-D DX nav system can have a TMC disk installed, these are available from eaby and nav stores. The new BNS 5.0 systems in 2007 cars should also be able to gte TMC disks The A6/Q7 with MMI basic + Nav is another ball game entirely. There is a thread on here regarding TMC on an A6 with basic nav. [ QUOTE ] Hi all, just joined the forum. I was wondering - exactly how boned are those guys (like me) with broken TMC on the CD-based nav system? (i.e. not DVD) [/ QUOTE ]
pdavies
Ah yes, sorry. It's a Nov '06 A4 Cab 3.0 TDI with the freebie nav system - it has a monochrome (red) display, with no map - only gives directions through audio and the little driver display. I have no idea if it's similar to the A6 system, and Audi haven't answered either of my emails.
PetrolDave
That's the BNS. I'm not 100% sure but that maybe compatible with the TravelPilot DX CD's from TeleAtlas? Can anyone confirm if that's correct or not? Certainly the RNS-D DOES use the TravelPilot DX CDs - and you can buy TMC enabled versions of them. I had TMC running on my RNS-D back in 2004! craigyb
BNS 4.0 does use DX disks and I think even supports TMC.
pdavies
Looking at the CD I can see it says BNS 5.0 on it, so BNS it is. I'll try to get hold of the TravelPilot DX CD. Getting rid of the line struck through TMC would be great Ta muchly for the help.
pdavies
Audi central just told me I missed the free upgrade window (despite my protests - they said the extension was just a rumour!), so I have got an image of the disc known as "Tele Atlas TravelPilot DX - United Kingdom Ireland 2006 TMC". Unfortunately, like my existing nav CD, it is immune to all my attempts to burn it correctly onto a blank. Don't get me wrong here, I do intend to buy it, but I really want to know it's the right thing before ordering it!
PetrolDave
[ QUOTE ] Audi central just told me I missed the free upgrade window (despite my protests - they said the extension was just a rumour!) [/ QUOTE ] The free upgrade applies to the DVD based RNS-E - so it never applied to your CD based BNS system! So you'll either need to try and find how to copy it, burn lots of "coasters" while you experiment, or by one from TeleAtlas for £114.98 http://www.navshop.com/en/product/united...x-en/6245/101/
pdavies
Thanks for the info PetrolDave. Somehow I just *know* if I go down to the local (Portsmouth) Audi, they'll fit me with something that either won't work or won't have TMC enabled. I'm only in it for the TMC, which is why I'm being so cautious £114.98 is just dandy - for the right disc. If it should turn out to be unworkable, I'll look at getting an upgrade to a DVD system. PetrolDave
The link in my previous post is to a 2007/2008 disc - so you'll get newer maps as well. My local Audi centre were really surprised when I showed them TMC working on the RNS-D back in 2003, and even went and bought some CDs from TeleAtlas themselves! Tanker912
Chaps, If anyone out there has not upgraded yet - get a shift on! My dealership (via Audi UK) have confirmed that the upgrade is still free until 31 December 2007. I'm getting mine done on Thursday!
davidjm
Hi, Does anyone have any ideas - my dealer Aylesbury Audi are being particularly unhelpful. I sent this to Audi UK: [ QUOTE ] I trust you will excuse the intrusion but I contact you as I appear to have reached an impasse with my local dealer, Aylesbury Audi (AA). Despite my best efforts over the last couple of weeks they are resolutely refusing to honour the current RNS-E TMC upgrade. My case is slightly unusual but I feel relatively simple. A couple of years ago whilst looking for a replacement vehicle I test drove a year old A6 Avant at AA. I liked the car but didn't like the mileage (+40K), the interior or the colour. I was however very taken by the installed RSN-E system. The salesman offered to find an A6 of my specification and have it delivered to my local dealers (AA), I specified RSN-E, diesel and leather. Some weeks and a few calls later the salesman admitted he was struggling to find an A6 Avant but he had a solution. He had found an A6 with everything except the RSN-E but the dealer was prepared to fit the system at AA as a extra cost option prior to delivery. I asked if there was any disadvantage to this route and was told that the data held on the car by Audi does not include factory options and therefore my car would look to all intents and purpose as if it left the factory with the RSN-E. This was completed and I took delivery of the vehicle with the RSN-E dealer installed. As an aside at the time I clearly recall noting the TMC was disabled, I asked why and was told it was an extra cost option. Fast forward to a few weeks ago I had taken my A6 to Amersham Audi for a service, choosing this dealer as I was due to take the offered courtesy car into London for a meeting. The courtesy car happened to have the same RSN-E as mine. On return I asked the service desk how much TMC actually was and they informed my of the difficulties Audi UK had experienced with getting TMC working and how I should have already been contacted by AA for an upgrade disk. Last week I contacted AA for the upgrade and was told initially by service and then by both the sales and customer service manager that because my system was a 'retrofit' and therefore they couldn't claim a warranty disk off Audi they were not prepared to honour the upgrade. As I am sure you will appreciate I consider this a completely untenable position. The system was dealer fitted prior to delivery and therefore is very much and Audi supplied and fitted part. The ridiculous part is I fully intend to trade the vehicle in soon and had been very interested in either moving up to an RS6 Avant or my wife an I may combine vehicles for a Q7. In the last 2 weeks I have gone from being a complete Audi convert to becoming more and more frustrated. I wouldn't expect a Kia main dealer to act in this way, let alone a marquee such as Audi. I would welcome Audi UK's comment. Yours sincerely, David MacKay [/ QUOTE ]

Well done. Welcome to the forum DavidJM. I hope you manage to get it resolved one way or the other. Have you tried approaching another Audi Centre? PetrolDave
DavidJM's experience with Aylesbury Audi is not uncommon - some dealers appear to go out of their way to be unhelpful and/or incompetent. Those are the dealers that we should ALL boycott. DavidJM - just get on the phone and speak to the other dealers near you. One of them WILL do the TMC upgrade for free. davidjm
Thanks petroldave, i will call around the South Herts area. I thought the dealer who actually fitted it would be the obvious port of call, maybe not. The mail to Audi UK bounced anyhow, has anyone got a good contact? I don't want to let Aylesbury Audi get away with shoddy service. As an aside has anyone got any comments re newer A6's? Ironically my comment about replacing the car actually has a grain of truth and i find my current A6 Avant could have a better chassis. It generally rewards driving but can become a surprising handful quite quickly on A and B roads.
maersk
Thanks JC. Not meant to be a put down as such but writing to a company about one of its products and 'apparently not knowing what the product is' often results in poor service I find. Welcome JM. Telling them you are considering trading the car won't endear them either. Tell 'em you have it, it doesn't work and you want it fixed like everybody else. Somwhere on here is the current main man's address, I remeber seeing it. Can't remember where though.

[/ QUOTE ] Possibly, although i would doubt either a main dealer or Audi would be that petty (although possibly Aylesbury Audi may be). [ QUOTE ] Telling them you are considering trading the car won't endear them either. [/ QUOTE ] Why on earth not? I run a company and would be far more interested in providing a loss leader to a client who i think i will retain. In fairness though, Audi UK specialist's details have appeared on here before and i know how frustrated i felt after being continually jiffed around by a number of dealers; you could argue they bring it on themselves. I do hope i haven't caused Paul unnecessary hassle though and i'll PM a moderator to remove it.
