Snail
Is the 1.25 zetec good for high mileage? Found a mint car, but with 96k on it. Not sure if thats doable on a ford fiesta. Anyone any experience?

Snail
Missus is after something small, 3 door, and fairly sporty (or a fiesta ) Found a stunning condition one, all the electrics, tax/mot, FFordSH etc. Only 2 problems are its high mileage, and an ex-learning school one. Sheeps
My brother's 'V' Zetec's engine broke - they do this a lot apparently and are expensive to fix - 1,200 best quote so far.
cruiser647
ex-learning school??? Wouldn't touch that one. The mileage on a small engine puts me off and the fact that the engine will not have been revved to more than 3K rpm!
Ari
At least it won't have suffered from constant cold starts and short journeys.
Thorburn
I had a 1.25 Fiesta and it was a reasonable engine. Designed with Yamaha if I remember correctly. Not sure about high mileage though, mine had about 50k when I wrote it off.
Alastair_A3
Bought my Daughter an "X" 1.25 Zetec but it only had 15k on the clock. Nice little car, and the 1.25 is surprisingly nippy for its size.
Dadstoys
Just sold the Mrs' 53 plate Fiesta TDCi with 112k - absolute pleasure to drive. She had a Fiesta 1.25 zetec before that - which we sold with 76k - and it was still a good 'un. I've never had a problem with high miler cars - provided they haven't had many owners, and have a full service history. No history = bad news. Mollox
Well Snail if you fancy an affordable bargain, Liz's N reg 22,000 mile Fiesta has been on her parents drive for 3 years or so. I'm sure it needs just a tiny amount of tlc, some air for its tyres and a service and it'd be a bargain goodun
danksy
My mrs has the 1.6 zetec engined Ghia. We have had it from new and it has covered 75k miles. Just developed a problem with a small leak from the aircon, as well as a noisy CV joint. Otherwise utterly reliable, and quite nippy
rhyds
if it's ex-driving school, i'd check the driveshafts and engine mountings for signs of "clutch straight up" starts, and also check the gearbox. The 1.25 Zetec isn't a bad engine, but the problem is you can't rebuild the bottom end (but when did you last see anyone do that?)
