Just seen 2 policeman in an unmarked bright orange 5 door Focus ST in Brighton. Glad to see they are putting the taxes back where its most needed.

[/ QUOTE ]

But how are they supposed to catch crims, mate, when they steal high-powered cars like yours and mine ?

Not really going to work, pursuing them in a Focus diesel now, is it ? confused.gif

What kind of comment is that???

The police dont pay anything like you and I pay for the cars, BMW are currently offering their cars to my force for nearly half the list price!!!

As mentioned, how are the police expected to catch the quicker cars if they dont have any performance cars, its not like EVERY police car is a ST smashfreakB.gif

Didn't mean to offend with any comments, just peeved its unmarked.

Why? As long as the ASBO doesn't deliberately provoke you - by tailgating for example - I don't see a problem. However, if you provoke and race it, then you deserve to be nicked anyway.

I'm just a fan of high profile policing. Keeps everyone safe and as their numbers seem to be dwindling, replaced with gatsos that can't police poor driving standards, would be nice to be aware of them in whatever they drive. In sussex they have a few high performance unmarked cars. In fact they were in force on the A23 on the same day as the ASBO spot in fully marked Merc estates and accordingly, everyone was driving sensibly.

But even if I'm technically wrong, I don't think that driving at say 90 on a dry dual carriageway with good visibility and very little traffic (for example) should be classed as driving like an arse and incurr the wrath of an unmarked police car.

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly, I'm all for unmarked cars tackling the real idiots on the road, and I suspect the drivers of a lot of unmarked performance police cars are too, and wouldn't bother with more than a friendly "Just so you know I'm here" approach to performance motorists who are driving sensibly.

However, I worry about things like in-car continuous video recording with speed overlays, these kind of technologies take away the descision-making process from the trained and experienced driver, and mean every speeder has to be stopped and charged, otherwise officers can get into trouble for not having made the stop. We trust our police with deciding if a potential scrote on the street is worth hauling in or not, why can't we trust the specialist police to know if a driver is liable to pose any danger to themselves and other road users or not?

....Exactly! Allow policemen to use their intelligence and discretion.

I don't get it...? Order umarked cars ....in luminous orange? ...Not exactly discreet! smashfreakB.gif

I'm sure their intention is not to draw people into races but I think all of us in nippy / smart looking cars have experienced folks trying to race us at some point or other. Not sure an orange Focus ST sends out the right message for the good guys who's job it is to 'uphold' the law. I think all police cars should be fully logo's up unless undercover / CID work.
