sportypants
Hi, I would like to somehow make the headlight activation automatic on my B7 (Turn on when its dark)? Does anyone know if this is possible? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, SP
shark_90
Not sure what you'd need for this one.. but it's something I've been thinking about myself If you find anything out let me know
ashleyadam
I have automatic lights dont really find them that useful, I'm sure to retrofit would be quite expensive - why?
sportypants
Sure will, seems an easy mod but things are never what they seem! BTW I like the xenon conversion, nice B7 S-Line Cabriolet - Phantom Black, 2.0tdi, 18" Alloys Heated Leather Seats, Auto Folding Mirrors, Colour DIS, Accoustic Hood, 6-Disc Changer, Rear Parking Sensor
PetrolDave
The light sensor is in the (auto dimming) interior mirror, and comes with auto wipers on the B7. So you would have to change the interior mirror for sure. Are the wires in place from the interior miror to carry the light/dark and wet/dry signals to the convenience ECU? (I think it might be CAN) Not sure if the convenience ECU version would need changing either (in the same way that there are at least two versions of the SCSM - on that is cruise & MFSW ready, and on ethat isn't)? sportypants
Oh dear, sounds complicated, I suppose Id better get used to turning them on myself
ashleyadam
It really does not take long to turn them on yourself
Drewcam
It is hard work though. About 1 second of your right hand off the wheel to turn the dial. Dont know how we cope

A4_Family_Man
Isn't it just another gadget you can live without? Fair enough if you just like to tinker/modify (I know the feeling well!) but I've used automatic wipers/lights before and tbh I preferred to manually use them - they never worked perfectly for me. Just like with sat-nav, I'm just as happy with TomTom as RNS-E. The only extra I don't have (that I would like) are xenons
craigyb
Maybe I'm getting old, but when my auto wipers broke, it was the end of my world... but then again it also took out the intermittent wiper control so I had to keep switching between off and normal wipers, which was a pain. Then my auto lights failed and I was at deaths door. Fortunately they are all working again now and the sun is shining once more.
PetrolDave
I'm with craigyb - when I had an A4 without auto headlights it was a real pain having to remember to turn them off (knowing when to turn them on wasn't a problem ) And having the auto wipers now is great, I just leave the wipers permanently in the auto position and they just do their stuff. Two less things to think about, so I can get on with driving
ashleyadam
Come on guys it takes longer to lift armrest than turn on lights or wipers, you may have got used to them but they are certainly not needed. Only thing they do for me is that I forget to turn lights when driving 2nd vehicle but when it rains certainly remember to turn on wipers.
craigyb
You mean that grey thing between the seats moves? I've been looking for a button to make it move for ages. Thanks for the info...
coddy
I have the auto lights and like them, saves my right hand for other things. As for the auto wipers, crap.
TDiAvant
When driving from Strasbourg to Bern and then Geneva, I lost count of the amount of tunnels I drove through. Auto headlights would have come in very handy I think these options will become more common in a few years time.

JimLoskot
I had auto lights on my lexus as std(now gone ) and I really miss them already (only had the car 2 days). I used to jibe the missus something rotten when in her fiesta about the laborious task of manually having to turn the lights on and off. This would be a great retrofit for me but I recon it'll be mega ££££. I'll just have to get used to manual lights again

[/ QUOTE ] How do you deal with the trauma of moving the steering wheel? Christ, "auto lights" - all you have to do is rotate the switch. Why not just turn them on all the time - make it part of the startup procedure.

[/ QUOTE ] With bi-xenons you get DRL's so you don't even have to do that! There's a switch which you set permanently for DRL's on or off. sportypants
Ha ha fight amongst yourselves........... personally I like the feature, a very expensive factory extra so I spent the money elsewhere, automatic door opening, auto pilot etc
