Calm Chris
[ QUOTE ] Ouch. Red wine and hot needles don't mix. [/ QUOTE ] Soak the foot in a basin of hot water for half an hour, have another half bottle of wine and try again. No pain, no gain
peterb
Lottie, clearly there is some infection around the nail, and it is probably this which is giving you pain. Use of needles or other implements may make matters worse in this respect. Advice from chiropodist (my wife): Bathe the toe in saline (teaspoon of salt in a pint of warm water). Apply some antiseptic (germolene). Do not pull it off - the nail may shed of its own accord, normally a new nail follows (assuming the nail bed is not damaged). If you are still concerned, see a chiropodist, GP or practice nurse. She says it looks like typical damage from a badly fitting boot.
JamesB
Isn't it funny how much more sensible advice is in the morning ? The yank it off comment was a little tongue in cheek (although I would stand by it if it was almost off of its own accord and causing irritation). Yes, hot needles are only of use if you have blood trapped under there, which it doesn't look like. Otherwise, you are just creating another way for bacteria to get in. lottiefox
I didn't stab it last night, I left it alone. It doesn't hurt as much this morning. Peter - thank your wife for the advice. Its weird as it happened after doing my snow shoe experience in proper walking boots that I've worn for years all over the globe that are usually a perfect and comfortable fit. I can only imagine the snow shoe angle caused my foot to lie differently and the nail got squished. Savlon now on.
peterb
[ QUOTE ] Peter - thank your wife for the advice. [/ QUOTE ] Will do! I'm pleased that you're feeling more comfortable now! If the nail really is damaged beyond recovery, then the new nail will grow, pushing the old nail out as it does so. [ QUOTE ] Savlon now on. [/ QUOTE ] Well done! Keep repeating the treatment to eliminate the current infection and prevent re-infection. You'll be fine. You should have let me see it last Wednesday!
