Oatz
I totally agree, on the right car finance can make perfect sense in comparison to high depreciating newer cars but the trouble with my situation/dilemma I recently faced is the fact that 996's are dropping like stones in terms of value (RMS and Intermediate drive shafts etc seem to be helping so a warranty at £895 p/a is essential) maybe if it were a 993 then it would be a different story but running costs on these can be scarily high! (so negates residual benefits) At the moment the MK2 V6 prices appear to have stabilised and with what appears to many changing hands and being kept as second cars there are less and less appearing on the market (only 350 made in total and handbuilt) the general consensus being pristine examples (I looked at quite a few scruffy examples before finding mine) with low mileage's will hold their value for a good couple of years (hopefully) to come seeing as there will not be a replacement (MK3). From my research undertaken asking prices have increased over the past few months (OK agreed asking is different to actual selling price) but nevertheless a rise across the overall market, decent examples are also selling in a matter of hours on occasions. Who knows maybe I’m disillusioned but all I do know is a 996 will definitely cost more £ in ownership than the Vee

Oatz
[ QUOTE ] Interesting. How do you find it compared with the R32?? [/ QUOTE ] I absolutely love it!! From the noise it makes through to the handling to the way it lays its power down and accelerates in a linear fashion all the way to the red line is unbelievably similar to a 911. Just test drive one (MK2) and you'll see what I mean. Such a quirky little supercar and certainly has that true sense of occasion whenever I drive it. At first I was completely put off by it being a Renault but after a bit of research I soon discovered I was being a badge snob and that they cannot be compared to any other Clio (only sharing the outer shell) plus the only issue they seem to suffer from are faulty coil packs (a batch issue). Comparing this to all the reported (and experienced) problems with the r32 and the 996 and it was all starting to make logical sense. I also discovered they were all hand built and proven to be reliable. OK the interior isn’t as palatial as the R32’s but it still has all the creature comforts you need (a/c, cruise, auto lights, auto wipers, 6 CD stacker under the passenger seat etc.) As I only do 5000ish miles per annum I also wanted something that was fun and faster than the ,:R. and it definitely feels faster than the .:R. No disrespect to the .:R32 but I found it never really had a sole... Perfect if it were an everyday car having to be practical and deal with our rubbish British weather day in, day out but I only have a car for weekend fun and the V6 fits the bill perfectly! I understand you have to be pretty careful in the wet a bit like any rear wheel drive car, see below vid for Clarkson and Hammond's views and the wet issue (if you respect their opinions...): Oh and here’s a pic. of mine: Highjack over....
