Wallachie
I want to buy a laptop for the house, don't want or need anything fancy so I'm not spending lots of money on it. My brother told me I should try and source an Apple i-book or i-mac. Which should I be looking for? I'll hopefully pick up a second hand one from somewhere, ebay or wherever. Cheers! Ritey
Just to clarify, the iMac is not a laptop, more of a screen with the computer built in MacBook is what you want if you can, it will come with the Intel chip so you can run Parrallels (virtual machine software) so if your used to windows you can still do things with it, or install XP so you can boot into that if you wish, until you learn the Mac way Plus they are faster than the old iBooks
eolair
do a search - apple laptops have been discussed a number of times. Quickly though, buy extra memory from someone like crucial.com, so you have at least a gig. Second, you can buy perfect, fully functional guaranteed units from the apple refurb store online - 15-30% discount.
gizze
Agreed, buy from apple or John Lewis if you want the extra warranty JL provide for free, as used mac prices stay high, so really not worth buying used unless it has warranty etc. Any of the intel macbooks will be fine. Wallachie
Why was this topic moved? I'm talking about a PC? Anyway, I've been offered this from someone I know on another local forum here in NI: Apple MacBook Black MacBook 2.0 GHZ Intel Core 2 Processor 1GB DDR SDRAM (Supports 2GB) 120GB Hard Drive 13.3 Inch TFT Widescreen Display Intel GMA 950 Graphics Processor Built in i-Sight Video Camera DVD+R.DVD+RW/CD-RW Airport Wiresless Networking Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) Cost him £1k and he said he'd take £850 for it, my bro tells me they are £850 + VAT new anyway, so I'm hoping I could get it for between £700-800. What you reckon gents?

This is my first Apple computer so I'm slightly concerned about familiarity etc. Seeing The Gadget Show kind of swayed my decision to go for one. SamD
I love my Mac, but then this is my 7th over the years. I currently have a 20" iMac, a Mac Mini, and the MacBook. Pretty easy to get used to if you persevere

drpellypo
Indeed - MAC is the Wii of the PC world. Really really intuitive, and you wonder why MS didn't go this way. Although, they have with Vista to an extent. Just ripped off MAC!
DHA
Having used PCs for 15 years I went to Apple 2 and a half years ago and will never go back. Once you get used to the way to do things it is very easy and very powerful for home use.
Ritey
And for developers, I've switched to doing most of my development on an iMac
