lottiefox
[ QUOTE ] A few more OTR pics... [/ QUOTE ] God No, sorry but that does nothing for me. WTF is going on with the headlights and the huge front fogs???? I still think it looks like a new TT on drugs - and whilst I ADORE the new TT and love the bigger Audis too (S8 etc) this just seems confused to me. However, I remain open minded til I see one. SamD
It just has looked a bit "bulky" in the pictures I have seen so far. I am sure it looks better in real life, but the pictures aren't really doing it for me at the moment Oh and I really don't like that colour, it is almost Maroon

Golfer
[ QUOTE ] I have seen it in the metal at Geneva, and believe me none of the pictures we've seen so far really do the car justice. It doesn't disappoint at all - inside or out - and has to be seen IRL to be truly appreciated (like most nice cars, it has to be said.) Then this afternoon i went to bmw to have a look at the 5 series LCI and they had an M Sport Touring, just looks so much better!

I spent a whole day today testing BMW cars. The thing is with BMW interiors (or rather lack off) they are not as good as Audi, the sat-nav screen I found hard to see easily,it only goes down to 125 yards where Audi goes down to 50yards, TPM is a joke, does not show tyre pressures, ( audi show each tyre pressure on the move) and you have to guess which tyre is going down on the BM, and general finish and appearance inside are no where near Audi's. The Cruise control setting on the BM, is imposible to see if the steering wheel is in a sporty low position and only "flashes up " on screen for a moment!!! unless you spend £900+ on head up display.I could not spec "paddle shift" on the 650i sport!!! had to make do with auto!! WTF. The seats are no where near as adjustable or as comfortable as sport audi ones, all cheap plastic levers and limited electrics, and not very suportive or comfortable. Everything made to low budget ( it looks anyway). BMW's in general perform very well but there are a lot of quality shortcomings with them. Must be getting Old. Sorry an observation with 60K to spend, depressing.

The new LCI 5 interior is great lots of the plastic switches etc have been upgraded. I also found that after a day or so i grew to the bmw interior more so than the Audi

To me the 5 series is a mish-mash of awkward creases, lines and misproportioned bulges - the 'Bangle effect' I guess. I really want to like it, as I was quite fond of the E39, but I just find it hard work to look at (especially the 'Dame Edna' front-on view). In contrast the A6, IMO, has a very elegant and graceful design, with road presence in spades (especially so in the case of the Avant). Understated but imposing too in a subtle sort of way, without the 'in yer face' take it or leave it styling of the 5. I expect it will stand the test of time as well as its predecessor. garcon magnifique
I'm not the biggest fan of the 5 series. It seems to have too much bodywork. And the M Sport is far too heavy handed. But I'm no fan of the A6 either - to me it is blandness personified. I suspect the A5 holds a few styling cues to the forthcoming B8 A4 - in which case it is reasonably promising. But as I said higher up, I shall wait until I see one in the flesh.
Alastair_A3
Hey its all IMO, its all about liking different things I personally dont like the SE 5 series but adore the looks of the M Sport esp in Carbon Black. Its not just the styling thats dull and bland on the A6, it drives like that aswell. Also the engine line up really needs updating, i wanted a diesel engine with enough poke but very good fuel economy. The 520d is a perfect engine for this, in the A6 you get the weedy 2.0 TDI 140 or the 2.7 TDI which drinks fuel. (The one i tested gave me a combined consumption of 29 MPG)
