Thanks Gizze,

That is exactly the answer I was looking for, funny enough your recent post and photo's of your car had pushed me very close to going for a 335i touring to replace the S4, but now I might well be holding on till September, although I guess it depends on allocation as to when I might get my car.

also can any decipher this for me?

Vehicle Ordering

IVS and SA3 and Kerridge are being updated to include the new BMW M3 Coupé and will be available from Tuesday 10 April. FAMOS will be updated by mid-April.

Hi Miguel (good old Buckinghamshire name by the way!! grin.gif)

I can shed some light on this for you. "IVS" is the internal BMW system for new cars and it shows a raft of detail concerning new/current/incoming cars/specs etc. "Kerridge" is again an internal database (that most franchise dealerships use) resource system.

The date of 10th April 2007 reflects when the information (that has been posted here) will be loaded onto the BMW internal systems in readiness for customer enquiries and orders.

Hope that helps?

Gareth

As you are the man in the know Gareth, what about the Touring, also my dealer has just told me that although launch is in September we won't get cars till Jan 08

[/ QUOTE ]

Hi

The Touring (plus 4 door saloon and convertible too) are not yet confirmed but doesn't mean they won't (or will!!) happen. Educated guess says that the Touring won't be out until Q3/4 of '08, Saloon (still doubtful I hear) Q1 '09 and convertible Q2/3 '08.

Could you clarify your point about September launch but not getting a car until Jan '08 please?

Cheers.

Well my dealer kept telling me that I would be getting mine in October (#2 on list) and it sounds like he is right.

Love the roof and looking forward to adding EDC.

First customer cars will be for September, just after the first dealer demo cars arrive.

Why would you want EDC? One of the more useless options unless you are going to track the M3 - I rarely tinker with PASM on my 997 for the road.

Just discovered this forum whilst wandering lost without M3 news while BM3W is off-line, this thread has re-juvinated me.

I wanted some opinions, I'm 5th on a coupe list but it isn't the most practical car for me, how long after launch will the touring be released and if I took delivery of my coupe reasonably early, could I trade it against the touring without taking too much of a hit?

Gareth, you seem to speak the most sense about such things.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you're 5th on your dealer list you can expect to get your (manual) Coupe sometime in Q2 '08. By then the car will be in reasonable supply, but it will still retain a decent amount of it's value.

Cheers,

Gareth

Thanks for the info, the chap I spoke to said they have had an "indication" that although the launch is September that they will have a dealer car then but delivery to customers wouldn't be till Jan 08. I suggested this would be a tremendous waste of pent up demand which could go elsewhere and he agreed that it seemed unlikely, the only reason I could see would be that they would be unable to build them quick enough to supply all of europe in Q4 of 2007.

What is the likely monthly dealer allocation.

I have no intention of playing with it. I let adaptive damping systems sort themselves out. Im my experience on the normal setting they are better than a regular damper/spring set up.

The EDC will give you 'comfort', 'normal' and 'sport' - wonder which of those setups the M3 without EDC will have? One would hope 'sport'!

and they will all be accessible (eventually through the menu system) via the i-drive....think I'll pass on EDC and just hope it comes on "Sport" like you Elliot

I dont think it will do it for me.

That pic o the interior confirmed in my head its just too much luxury not enough in your face performance.

I will keep my order on as you never know but its looking unlikely.

Might keep it to run for a week alongside the CSL if there are good premiums.

If someone wants to give me a good offer for 5th at Park Lane I might be swayed.

I think its going to between new CSL and GT3 for me. frown.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

You're a funny guy Sam grin.gif

If you think fifth place on the delivery list enables you to get a premium you are sadly mistaken...just not going to happen my friend.

[/ QUOTE ]

I am not saying it is im saying what if.

I dont have to decide until its about to go in to production anyway, but at this moment in time not intrested.

If I buy to sell on ill get it blk and blk.

If I buy to keep ill get it alpine white with carbon roof.

Dealer thought there was a good chance of the car arriving early 2008. Thought there would be a fair few people dropping off the list as the price was announced. They are sending me the option by end of week/month (cant remember) so will post as soon as I get.

I really am disappointed by the DSG.

Maybe BMW will manage to make it more mechanical than VW have managed so far.

No doubt it will be a great auto and most drivers will use it as such rather than banging through the box. Sounds very commercial...

However all the manual BMW's I have driven and owned have all had quite heavy clutches which will be a nightmare in my London traffic.

I never thought it would come to this. I was always worried about how the new M3 will look. Now I love the looks of it, think its modern, good looking and aggressive. Now im just concerned about how it will drive and the interior.

I cant wait to be proved wrong... 169144-ok.gif

All this talk - You know the car is going to be good I believe all M3 models have had excellent improvements over previous models. The car is a winner you can see it BMW raise the bench mark everytime.

Hopefully it will be the best M3 ever.

Just dont know if its right for me yet. Im being selfish... grin.gif

More news e-mailed to me this morning:

MY COMMENTS

Please to hear the good news!

I will go for the coupe not the cab.

My understanding is that there is no SMG box option but a double clutch box, is this correct?

Will the double clutch option be available from launch as an option as I have heard they will not be released until later.

To choose whether I go manual of DSG I think I need to drive both, when do I have to decide – will there be a demo car I can have a go in before I have to spec?

And finally – am I still 5th on the list or have I been bumped up the queue due to people dropping out?

When am I likely to take delivery?

Many thanks,

----------------------------

News from BMW sales:

I can confirm that we have today received the model order codes for the new BMW M3 Coupe, this will enable BMW Park Lane to load our customer orders onto the BMW central ordering system, this is the very first stage of the order process, and the next stage will be when BMW UK allocate BMW Park Lane a number of M3 quota units to match customer orders,

Could I please ask you to confirm if Mr Sam **** prefers a Coupe, or Convertible M3, and please note the model codes for convertible are not likely to be released until later on in the year.

Finally having received the order codes, this does not mean we will be able to offer a delivery date for the new M3 Coupe , we will only be able to offer a confirmed delivery build slot when BMW UK offer BMW Park Lane a quota unit which matches our existing customer orders.

I shall keep you up to date on progress, and look forward to hearing back from you with regards to the model required,

Kind regards

****

i dont think Im going to spec the double clutch system. Ive used a dsg and whilst it is a fantastic peice of kit I much prefer the involvement of changing myself. You dont get the full effect of acceleration with dsg as its so linear. The smg system seems more mechanical. Its a shame you cant have a sequential box with a manual clutch rather like the rally cars.

The only other DSG system that is out is for Audi, VW and Bucrappi, all of which have been out for a while now.

BMW may have something up their sleeve with this system, maybe it is more involving than the VW system?

I will somehow drive the manual first to see what I prefer.
