330dcoupe
Well folks - It seems like that time of the year is just about here again, where we have to use our air conditioning button. My 1st question is this: does anyone else end up with sticky palms and fingers when the air condition is running in their cars?? I'm convinced this is a norm, as it happened to me in both my previous cars too. My second question is: Is there anyway of getting rid of that horrible smell that starts coming from your air vent's when you have used the air con for a little while and feel like it's getting a little chilly so decide to switch it off? Well whatever gets sweaty and smelly - here's to a good summer
kite
I have the A/C on all the time and just adjust the temp to stay comfy.I've never had sticky palms in the car..well not for a few yaers now. I think you can get an A/C cleaner from halfords that you put in the car and leave it running for 30mins and that is meant to kill the bugs that cause the smell.. drpellypo
I've never had sticky palms, not experienced the smell. Hmm.. perhaps ten full points to VW there.
wkrzys
A lot of the time i put the aircon into economy mode to turn the air compressor off (and save a few mpg ) as theres no point it being on during winter - but during summer, ive never experienced either of those two symptoms you describe! Sounds very odd to me!
Craigieboy
The smell is caused by bacteria in the air con pipes, this tends to form due to the condensation in there. As said, you can buy stuff from Halfords to kill the bacteria or failing that some valeters/smart repair guys can solve it for you
Ska
Just to add I was told that you should run your A/C on full cold for 5-10 mins every week in the winter to keep the refrigerent moving around. I've done this and never had a problem with my AC ever; fingers crossed
richy_uk
Had exactly the same prob with Mrs RichY's car so bought the stuff from Halfords Seems like it's worked, no more nasty smell but it's about £11 and you'll need to clean the inside of the car afterwards.
