S3Rob
And even better news...that engine is going in the R8!! (apparently). If I were to buy this RS6, I would have to stealth it up as much as possible. The satisfaction of someone thinking you've got maybe 250bhp max and then.... Dave
That's a great headline figure, but personally I'd like to see the bhp/tonne figure.

Merlot
[ QUOTE ] how much is one going to cost .... [/ QUOTE ] Too much. I bet they keep the list price of an Avant below £70k but it will be c£73k (guessing) with a bit of spec - lots of ££ and with the old RS6's DRC woes, residuals will be poor after a couple of years - look how bad the RS4 is after 18 months. One for the rich.
S3Rob
I can't get over the fact that a simple remap will likely take this to 650hp. And you could still use it as a daily driver! Absolute madness!!

It may be possible to go over £70k but only with a silly spec really.

Why would the Audi be so much more tunable?
JamesB
Turbos, I guess. It certainly seems that turbocharged engines have a history of greater fettling improvements than supercharged ones.

Dave
When i had my RS6 chipped we were limited by certain parts of the car, not least the engine. You have to take into account what the drive shaft can take, what the gearbox can take, how much boost the turbo's can hold. I was told that the old 4.2V8 bi-turbo was good for 800 to 900bhp.. that doesn't mean the car around it could take it thought!

[/ QUOTE ] I do yes, I'm not driving anything at the moment.. to be honest I've been busy recently with work and family issues so i've not really had much time. I'm still looking at a GT3 but i'm undecided whether or not to go for a second hand 996 or blow the budget and go for a 997 (non-rs!)

[/ QUOTE ] Ther supercharged version was the 5.5ltr (55AMG) V8. Brabus I think got that to around 600bhp but a chip would only increase the power by 50bhp. The 65 Brabus got to what 830bhp but that was from major gubbins too. I suppose my point to this is I doubt a chip would do much more than 600bhp for the RS6 - 700bhp sounds a bit OTT. Dave
I think it depends on what people want from the chip Wopps, You can simply increase the boost pressure to silly levels, but the engine (or at least the turbo) would expire quite quickly. I think tuning companies are much more subtle these days and go more for drivability and throttle responce rather than just out and out power. JamesB
I knew I'd read it somewhere. If mercedes can get it wrong and it's their car, I'm not going to feel too bad about my mistake. Of course, if I'd looked at the pictures instead of reading the blurb...
