The more i hear of stories such as this, the more i feel sick to the soul. Why cant we go through a day respecting one another and one's property. If every person strove to accomplish one good thing, either for themselves, a loved one or a complete stranger, the world would surely be a better place to live in. Why is it there seems to be such absence of regard for one another in today's world? I don't know about you guys, but it makes me sad. I don't have children yet, but my girlfriend and I are getting to the stage where we are going to plan a family. I do worry about the world that the children will be brought into, but then again, what choice do we have. Maybe it's time we had a good old Superman to look over us, or any guiding figure that can show us the way. Personally I've had enough of the litigious society we seem to have grown into. The law and punishment no longer deter criminals or the scum that seems to be growing, into being afraid of their actions. Their morals (or lack thereof) do not deter them with the consequence of their actions. How many of us, if we saw someone being set upon by a gang of thugs, would intervene to try to help? How many of us would stop and think about the physical consequences to ourselves, or the legal ramifications of rightly clouting one of these thugs over the head with a stick? How many would think to rally a group of bystanders together to defend en masse? Maybe that's what we're lacking nowadays in this youtube phone camera culture. The ability to group together with complete strangers and say no to the lower groups of scum that seem to reign un challenged in so many places today.

Steffi, like many others here, all I can do is offer you my deepest sympathies and well wishes, and hope that all the family can draw strength from each other in this difficult time. You know somebody will always be here for you and you've always got a metaphorical shoulder to cry on on TSN.

Things not good today. This afternoon the pressure on his brain rose again and his body temperature shot up. He's packed in ice at the moment to try and stabilise him again. This is the worst he's been yet.

To give you some idea of the problems with his brain - normal brain pressure is between 7 and 10(whatever the scale is). Paul's pressure was at 27 yesterday but is currently at 40! Combined with the pneumonia and the temperature its a very dangerous situation. frown.gif

Steff

Having recently lost my father to Cancer and the final problem being a brain tumour, I can fully understand what you are going through. My dad's brain was also under huge pressure and he had drains coming from all over to release the pressure etc. No doubt you know what this is like.

I wish you and the family all the best with this.

Sorry i've been a bit slack on the updates. The morning after his brain pressure went off the scale, they operated on him again and removed some more of his skull. Thankfully, the pressure dropped and his temperature came down. He has remained fairly stable ever since.

They are starting to reduce his coma drugs and he managed to breathe on his own for 5 mins yesterday. He also fluttered his eyelids and moved his hand, so there's progress. Pauline had a visit from a guy who spent 6 months in coma, with very similar injuries to Paul(who i hasten to add was fit and well now). He told her to talk to him about things that happened 10 years ago, as it was likely his short term memory was affected, so that's what she's doing. Anything, if it will help him wake up confused.gif

I havent had an update yet today, but am hopeful for yet more improvement. Am working nights at the moment but will try and keep you all posted on events.

I hope that it gets better, this kind of thing (plus the others knocking around) just really makes me think confused.giffrown.gif

When I were a lad there was bother but this kind of thing is way beyond that and is unfortunately almost being ingrained in current culture SAUER0421.GIF

Whatever happens (and I hope it's as good as can be), I hope they get a long stretch - just a crying shame it will be with a comfy bed and Sky, rather than the fearful experience it really should be SAUER0421.GIFSAUER0421.GIFSAUER0421.GIF

From the news article posted, I think Paul works in a Prison.

When the lad gets sentenced I would like to think that his colleagues in the service will 'help' the lad settle in wink.gif.

Justice will be provided either by the courts, the prison or hopefully both 169144-ok.gif

In where? If you mean the hospital, no. The police station, yes, but she has changed her statement from her original one. No doubt the t**t has got to her as he's out on bail.

On a lighter note - Some good news! 169144-ok.gif

Paul has continued to be stable. The pnuemonia is back in his lungs, but thats under control. They have taken him off the antibiotics for the moment, to see what happens. He is continuing to make progress, so much so, that they have taken some of the machines off him, and he looks like Paul again, except for the ventilator. Some of his colour is returning, and now that they are reducing the coma drugs, his body is coming to life. Only little movements, but movement nonetheless. They are taking him off the ventilator for short bursts, to coax his breathing muscles into action, although he cant maintain it on his own yet. He still hasnt woken up, but things are looking promising. Here's hoping beerchug.gif

Some good news for a change. Yesterday, Paul had a tracheotomy(sp?) to help his breathing and syphon off the crap in his lungs. Apart from the whistling noise he's now making, things are definately improving.

They are still reducing the coma drugs slowly, and he moved his legs a little yesterday. He's much more stable, so much so, they are thinking of moving him to the high dependancy ward.

The only worry at the moment is the hospital have taken him off his antibiotics as they are frightened that he may catch MRSA. How, i dont know, but apparently the ab's increase the likelyhood? Anyway, what do i know about it. They're the experts

But, there IS definate improvement, and he's breathing for himself for longer and longer now. Still cant do it properly yet, as he breathes way too fast and his muscles having done nothing for 2 and a half weeks have become very weak. But he's trying, thats the main thing

Long may it continue 169144-ok.gif

Excellent news, if you can try and keep him on the ICU unit, the HDU care is hugely different. When my dad was in ICU you get 1 on 1 and HDU was supposed to be 1 on 4 but in reality it was more like 1 on 6 with some student nurses filling in the gaps.

All the best and nice to hear some positive news in this section.

Good to hear you so up beat Steff 169144-ok.gif, fingers toes and everything else (legs) crossed for you and more so, Paul.

Have you heard further about the Police action- or is that on hold awaiting the outcome of Paul's health issues?

Surely, if they / the lad, ad done what he obviously did, he would be on remand for attempted murder?

Why is the scum bag still walking about?
