636595
Just reading a few of the posts about replacing runflats. The bloke at the tyre place said one of his customers changed his Z4 to non runflats and "it handled like pig", so he changed them back to runflats. Barry, Gizzie what do you think which tyres did you use, and what about those faulkens..............anyone know?
lottiefox
I have changed my run flats on the Z4 coupe to Michelin Pilot Sport 2 and the handling improved 120%. I can't comment on what they'd be like on the 3 series though, but I don't think you'll find the handling changes for the worse without the run cr*ps sorry flats. gizze
I have never heard anyone say that swapping teh run flats has made the ride worse!! Falken FK452's are great, best value tyre out there, the PS2's are far more progressive so they let go alot easier but you can control it easier too, the Falkens hold on alot longer but then suddenly let go, like most tyres do, difference is they tend to hold on longer. PS2's would be my first choice, then Falkens after that.
Dave
yes, I've heard the same. That runflats are poor and that changing over is always for the best.

Alastair_A3
I have to say mine can be pretty rough over drains etc, overall though i dont think the runflats on the 5 are that bad, im leaving them on
CarMad
Ditto, will review costs etc. when they need changing but I will leave them put for now. I've got Michelin Zero Pressures on mine so best of the bunch I think.

636595
Looks like the it has to be Dunlops because of the profile, barry twomely rates them so that's fine with me........Bridgestone runflats £270 each, that'll be a grand a set then......nice

gizze
Get the pics up quick, I love Alpinas.
tinka
will do,the rears need spacers though,as the offsets are et40,front are ok,pics up the weekend.
gizze
So what size did you go for? Are the rears not wider??
tinka
no,all the same size,8.5/19" with 235/35 tyres, tbh im not realy a fan of deep dish wheels. i had a play last night with some washers on the rears to see what size spacers ill need and i think 5-8 or maybe 10mm will transform the way it looks at the rear. mark at bmautosport took some pics and they are on the site under new wheels 19" alpinas, have a look if you have a minute and give me your honest opinion because im not sure, although they are growing on me. gizze
Them??? Love 'em mate, I am seriously tempted to go with some for the E39. Great looking classic wheel. I would personally choose the slightly wider rear for the 530i though...
Soapsuds
I'd say it needs lowering a little (15-20mm) and deffo rear spacers. 10mm is common spacer size on these...... Wheels are VERY nice though - great choice!!
tinka
thanks ,i was thinking maybe 5mm,but then the 10mm's are hubcentric, decision, decisions. i was looking at kw springs which will lower a standard 3 series 30mm,so the msport will lower 15mm. other than that does it look ok,or should i say will it look a bit better with the spacers. gizze
Go with 10mm at least, you could fit 12mm on there too no problem, this would still only put the rears out 2mm further than the OEM 19" wheel, so nothing noticeable. tinka
am i right in thinking that with these wheels at et 40,with 10mm spacers the et will then be et30,im only just grasping the offset thing.
gizze
yeah, if you put a 10mm spacer on you will get it down to an ET of 30mm. The OEM has and offset of 34mm, however it is also 1/2" wider which is 13mm wider, so with a 10mm spacer you would be sitting with 10mm more clearance on the inside and sticking out 2mm less than OEM. A 12mm spacer would give you 12mm more clearance on the inside ( duh! ) and would make your wheel sit in the same position as the OEM 19" wheel. Some of the americams put 10mm spacers on the OEM wheels to fill the arches more, so you could easily go to 22mm spacers for a more agressive look. But stick with 12mm for the OEM look, 15mm for a smidge more (but you probably won't be able to tell) or maybe 18mm for a slightly more agressive look?
