I'm seriously thinking about getting one as my daily driver (although my commute is only 7 miles). The Fabia is the wife's car, and I've run a C1 for 4 days a week only for the last year (still HAVE to take the RS4 at least 1 day a week, to get the Cheshire Cat factor) - before that I used the RS4 every day. Almost £95 for V Power, sod that! This is the main reason I am not in a rs4,911,m3 etc anymore I have a similar journey each week and did it for a while in the c2s but realised aside from the mileage (maintenance, etc) being added to the car, near a £100 per week fill up is not fun when you restricted to the speed you can do each morning/afternoon in rush hour! I think you need a faster more powerful diesel that won't have your bored so easily. My 123d coupe might not stop me checking out the classifieds but it does the job! SINGH Posted May 15, 2011 Report Share Posted May 15, 2011 I've got a BMW 320D M Sport Coupe as my 'daily' l needed an economical car to do big miles in as using the S8 didn't make sense. Last night, I went to see a friend... But spent a good 20 mins extra just going through country lanes, heck even roundabouts with a little more aggression then usual (roads were empty) and I was having a lot of fun, proper fun. Its rear wheel drive, has a nice balance and just handles so very well it makes up for the lack of power and noise. It drives well, looks fairly stylish and returns excellent MPG and I couldn't be more pleased. I know it won't compare to an RS 4, but I think you may find it more rewarding then the A3? I was looking last night at daily runners and noticed that for less than £4k you can get the newish shape C Class Estate. These may not be to everyones taste, but they are a modern looking, comfy car. 220 or 270 cdi, 2002/2003, pretty good I reckon. I can't justify tieing too much up in a second car, otherwise I may as well just buy an X6. Will have a look at 120D's - not sure what sort of money they are but guessign about £5k for a cheap one? It's easier and cheaper when the second car is specialist, classic, Elise, weekend, limited mileage etc. However it is almost impossible to get a daily driver insured without no claims bonus unless you go for a multicar policy. Most insurers just aren't interested when you call asking for a second policy not using no claims bonus. You'd need a mileage allowance of at least 15k? Took lots of calls, but in the end I got lucky on my 18 year old GTi, insurance cost less than the tax! Not old enough to qualify for a classic policy with most insurers, but Footman James offered it. That's limited to 1500 miles...... you'll almost do that in a month! Try £10-15k for a 120d, they are very sought after due to the mega miles per gallon... Just collected dads Sportback, been with Audi since Friday to replace a temp sender, dad has gone to Scottish Highlands in a mates Passat. Not driven it for a while - lovely car! Has all the bits you need, found something 'listenable' in the 6CD, BOSE, MFSW, Nav etc etc. Pulling onto the bypass, changed into fourth, couldn't believe I still had two gears to go, had forgotten how tall the gearing is! Almost turned round and went back to Audi - thought the DIS must be broken - 40 mpg through 4pm town traffic! We've had it since 16k, now got 57k on the clock and it still looks fresh, not had any pads or discs yet, smaller rear pads 65% worn according to inspection sheet. Running cost wise you are laughing with an A3 TDi - and that's even with yearly oil change rather than AVS to help protect the turbo. Buy the RS4 for the weekend, switch to a multicar policy, put up with the boring [but comfortable and insanely cheap] motoring during the week, smug in the knowledge you have one of the finest V8 engines ever built to enjoy at the weekend. You wouldn't even need to buy a low mileage example, as with weekend miles the overall mileage will effectively drop compared to others that are still clocking up the miles. Better still buy one that's had the clutch and DMFW (dual mass fly wheel) changed and save yourself the ten hours labour and 2k bill. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
