Busby
I have got a bee in my bonnet at the moment about the RB320 Impreza. The Scooby is one of the cars I always wanted but never bought and I have got a real itch to get one now that the shape has changed. This has been compounded by the missus (who hates them) saying that she won't moan about it if so long as it is a weekend car and I don't get a new bike this year. The sensible side of my brain is asking why I am even thinking about spending £30k on a car to do 6000 miles a year in and which could lose money like a stone - but God, I really want one!!! garcon magnifique
If £30k for an RB320 is a bit steep, how about a little over £20k for a run out GB270 version of the standard WRX? The RB320 is a true monster of a car though. If you do succumb (and you should! ) make sure it has leather/alcantara and the Alpine sat nav. [/ QUOTE ] It's a good shout re the GB270 - main dealer for £19950 now. I'd always wish I'd gone for the 320 though! I just need to keep telling myself it's a phase and then maybe see what I can get one for this time next year if I still want it. There is always the WR1 too which I love and Simon seems mega impressed with his. No, no, no - be sensible, be sensible
Mollox
I know where you're coming from, although consider this: 1. Your choice of < 30,000 mile Impreza/EVO £14k 2. VX220 Turbo £12k 3. Panda 100HP Sporting £7k Total £33k. Having spent years wondering what one car combines everything I want, I'm starting to look at it in terms of multiple cars and then it just takes on another level of complexity and interest. You could of course substitute the ex-demo Panda for any £5k Focus/Astra-style chugger for the reliable hack in the fleet to save a couple of K. garcon magnifique
Of course, if it's a weekend car doing relatively limited miles, you could go for the best Impreza ever instead. The P1. If you can find an unmolested one, that is. There used to be some dodgy scouse geezer on here with one. I think he grew up and bought a VW Polo... Yes the RB320 is 2.5L vs the 2.0L of the WR1, the RB320 is a more "usable" car I've been told as there is more grunt down low (but it's all relative ). The 320 has more toys (but satnav is a must). I looked at at the RB320 but could justify the cost of them on the second hand market. I've also been told that owners of the 320 have been selling them as they don't really live up to expectations. And they also don't feel like an impreza because there is not the same “thump in the back” you get with the 2L. If you want a silly scooby, either the WR1 or a 320 will fit the book. People say that WR1 feels faster (more of a kick from the turbo as you only have a 2 litre engine instead of 2.5) and the WR1 is quicker to 60 (4.25 vs 4.8) and 100 (10.67 vs 12.2). Clean and unmolested WR1’s are becoming tougher to find, but there are stonking examples out there.

Mod your car by putting a speedo in which has a higher max speed than a veyrons. (FAO pedants - I know the veyron speedo is digital. it has a small traditional one too though - think that only goes up to 300! )

[/ QUOTE ] I know what you mean. I am driving a soot chucker now for the mile munching and have been happy with the bikes for my little fix. Can't shake the want to get back into nice cars at the moment though. The other avenue I considered was something along the line of a V6 Clio as a weekender and still getting a new bike. I 100% agree though that with rising costs and increasing security concerns, the way forwards is to have a "fleet" of sorts

garcon magnifique
I actually saw a fully stickered Evo Tommi Makkinen in a supermarket car park once. It got plenty of attention alright... mostly positive from 11 year old boys and negative from everyone else.

N/A is allegedly a better car anyway - 100 KG's lighter and a more sorted suspension = better in the twisties

So you either had a good escape, or missed a peach! Don't suppose you know what number it was? Is the current owner on the WR1 Owners club forum? Matt R
Certainly not the one you are thinking of, it was a one owner car from Hythe,Kent. Guy traded it for a DSG R32 ex demo of ours. I don't think he is regd on owners club. 15k was the best trade bid for the car.

Would probably need a independent specialist to take a look at any possibles for me. Ah yes, Mr Loddrik - wonder what he's up to now?
