Mollox
We're looking at changing a load of phones at work and wondered what you all thought of this model? Seems easier to ask here than do some research

bazza_g
If its half as good as the E61 its replacing then it'll be a cracking handset
Mollox
Ooh.. that good huh. Excellent. We're planning a mass rollout but if its that good, not sure I want all and sundry getting one! Sounds like it might be the perfect compliment to the iphone in the left/right jacket pocket combo stakes

Bison1379134007
I think i need to get the E71 too.... It's running S60 3rd edition right? Does anyone know if the feature pack makes any difference to the software you can run on it? As in if you get something for S60 3rd ed it will run on S60 3rd ed feature pack 1? S60 is almost as confusing as the different versions of Vista you can get.... Edited September 17, 2008 by Bison

Chav
I think i need to get the E71 too....It's running S60 3rd edition right? S60 is almost as confusing as the different versions of Vista you can get.... hiya, all new Nokia symbian devices for last year or so have been S60 3rd edition. S60 3rd edition feature pack 1 is backwards compatible - apps written for it will run on S60 3rd edition phones. S60 1st/2nd edition are obsolete. native apps for these phones wont run on 3rd edition. similarly native 3rd edition apps wont run on 1st/2nd edition. hope that helps. E71 internally is about 15% quicker than N95 8gb. symbian still a teeny bit sluggish if you are fussy.

Mollox
Really? We're not getting on very well so far. Admittedly, my roll-out got fecked and I still have no working email and no contacts (rather embarassing and I did manage to phone one of my staff instead of someone else the other day. All the more embarassing as he was sitting opposite me in the restaurant). What's the problem? - Interface: the iPhone makes it look like its from the 80s. Reminds me of my first ever blackberry. - Usability: Never once have I looked at the iphone instructions yet I've mastered it. I can't do anything with the E71 so far. WLAN: Can't make it connect to my home wireless no matter what. Bluetooth Modem: How the hell do you give your laptop the internet? Qwerty keypad: Hmm, maybe my fingers are too big but I can't type for toffee on it. Edit: I only seem to get crappy WAP instead of rich Full Internet (yep, damn iphone again). This can't be right?? What does it bloody do???? Arrrrrgh. Edited September 23, 2008 by Mollox
Mollox
I also appear to have crashed it trying to run/open/install the Sat Nav. It just gets better
Mollox
And is it true that it can't handle subfolders in an Exchange Inbox? Apparently we've had to buy and install a little app called Roadsync to get around this (I'd tell you if my mail was set up) but I just can't believe that Nokia and Microsoft wouldn't be able to sort this out before launching such a phone. Mac
It's funny isn't it - my iPhone frustrates me sometimes, but not anything like as much as when I have to use our 'special' phones. Makes you realise how funky the iphone actually is.
poobarr
A guy at our office has one and he likes it syncs well without hassle and reasonable battery for a smart phone. Downside is the tiny keyboard but if you are used to this with blackberry etc than no issues.
Mollox
In its defence, I think I might have found the proper internet and the way it reads out texts is very good. "Ellen" has just been amusing me reading out some funny messages and I'm sure I'll have some good words for her tomorrow. Videophone is novel but expensive and my GPS can't find any satellites - which is a little silly as that's what its there for...
Dave
Two days in with mine and i like it.. I am a Nokia guy and struggle when i use anything else.. I suppose that if you are used to their interface it's as intuitive as the iphone. My contacts went straight from my 9500 via bluetooth via a sync program.. very easy! No problem with the GPS on mine.. picks up satellites as quick as my tomtom. E-mail works great and it picks up all my wireless networks at work and home. The keyboard is small but what do you want?.. coming from a 9500 the phone was huge. It's also much easier than using predicitive text on a normal phone... I suppose it's a compromise. So far so good! Edited September 24, 2008 by Dave
Dave
I'm first to admit that the iPhone is a magical piece of kit and I've tried and tried to take one, but it just has too many compromise's for me... No picture messaging, limited blue tooth availability (for example to my TomTom), memory too small to move my music onto ( I currently have a 40GB iPod) and a poor camera. A real shame because they could have cleaned up.
