Busby
Got a new tv (Samsung LE37A656) and blu-ray player (Sony BDP S500) on the way and looking for a half decent hdmi cable to link them up. Only needs to be one metre and don't really see the point in spending more than about £30 to be honest as I am not an aficionado!! Any suggestions gratefully received. Biscuits
Hi, There are loads about... but I recon £15 would buy a goodun. I have a few IXOS ones, a few OEM (in the box) ones and at the office we have some £140 ones... all do the same job, but some look prettier than others
gizze
I wouldn't spend more than a tenner on a 1m one. As you get past 7m quality starts to matter, but at a metre you will be fine with any of them.
burble
A friend of mine was convinced that you needed to spend silly money on an HDMI cable so spent about £180 on a 1m cable for his PS3. To prove my point I switched it for my el cheapo £10 jobbie, watched a Blu-ray then switched back to his and he begrudgingly admitted that there was absolutely no difference. Sponge
I've got 4 HDMI cables in my setup. The postage for each one cost more than the individual cables. I think I got my last one from ebuyer. Ebay prior to that. Edited August 27, 2008 by Sponge
Biscuits
HDMI is a digital... so it hsouldn't matter what the cable is made out of as long as it has the right cores and screen. Over 7m as Gizze mentioned you do start having problems withthe signal strength, then the sheite HDMI hand-shaking starts to fall over. Then you need to get a high quality cable that is a bit chunkier to stop the signal volt-drop. If it's source equipment (DVD/PS3) direct to a panel/projector your usualy fine, but if you putting everything into an AV receiver first, then this adds another level of HDMI hand-shaking and cable scan start to make a difference. BillBlank
Ebay every time for under 4m lengths. What they all said about it being digital signal. Just don't ask me to say anywhere the wife might hear just how much I spent on analogue interconnects for my cd player a few years ago .
