Son in hospital

Title says it all - suspected appendicitis. Rushed off to A&E yesterday.

They would whip it out, but the ultrasound scan showed the appendix was too swollen to take out via keyhole surgery. So they're dosing him on antibiotics in the hope this calms things down, then reviewing things later.

Not happy. A bit worried, in fact :(

Easy for someone else to say but don't worry mate - he's in the best place and he's in good hands.

Worst case they'll take it out and he'll have a proper scar (like my appendix one!) and not a girly keyhole one +++

How old is your son and how is he coping with being in hospital?

Thoughts are with you buddy.

Thanks everyone - really appreciate your thoughts.

Have just got back from visiting him. Mrs P is still there. He's stable, docs are controlling things with painkillers and antibiotics to try and him him & his appendix in a state they can operate on. Main problem is him being bored ... which is probably a good thing!

Cruiser - one doc has already told him that girls are impressed by scars, to be told quite firmly that he doesn't want a girlfriend (he's 9). Cue every bloke in earshot thinks "Just a few years and that'll change...."

Anyway, fingers crossed for the next ward round.

I hated hospital myself so your son has my sympathies. He'll be fine mate, if they didn't feel the need to jump right in there straight away then that can't be worst case scenario :). He'll get bored witless but this could be the start of a beautiful nurse fetish that'll kick in in about four years. Book the therapy sessions now :roflmao:.

Seriously, best wishes to him and your family sir.

Bill

:roflmao: If anyone can persuade my son to eat properly, please pm me asap!

Pizza, bread, butter, and roast potatoes will go in reliably. Anything else, fat chance! It is being (gently) pointed out to him that one reason we have been so keen in the past for him to try fruit and veg has been to avoid, err, suddenly having to go to hospital for four days....
