patently
Title says it all - suspected appendicitis. Rushed off to A&E yesterday. They would whip it out, but the ultrasound scan showed the appendix was too swollen to take out via keyhole surgery. So they're dosing him on antibiotics in the hope this calms things down, then reviewing things later. Not happy. A bit worried, in fact
Busby
Easy for someone else to say but don't worry mate - he's in the best place and he's in good hands. Worst case they'll take it out and he'll have a proper scar (like my appendix one!) and not a girly keyhole one How old is your son and how is he coping with being in hospital? Thoughts are with you buddy.
Booster
Been there, got the big scar as well. I'm sure he will be fine but its not nice when your child has to go into hospital as you feel so helpless. Best wishes.
dukeboy749r
As everyone else has said - Best Wishes and I am positive your son will soon be up and about (despite being told he has to rest!), within no time!!

patently
Thanks everyone - really appreciate your thoughts. Have just got back from visiting him. Mrs P is still there. He's stable, docs are controlling things with painkillers and antibiotics to try and him him & his appendix in a state they can operate on. Main problem is him being bored ... which is probably a good thing! Cruiser - one doc has already told him that girls are impressed by scars, to be told quite firmly that he doesn't want a girlfriend (he's 9). Cue every bloke in earshot thinks "Just a few years and that'll change...." Anyway, fingers crossed for the next ward round.

shark_90
All the best mate, I'm sure he'll be fine and as said, he's definitely in the right place although it will be a daunting experience for him. I still hate hospitals even now. I'm sure you know all the right things to do
BillBlank
I hated hospital myself so your son has my sympathies. He'll be fine mate, if they didn't feel the need to jump right in there straight away then that can't be worst case scenario . He'll get bored witless but this could be the start of a beautiful nurse fetish that'll kick in in about four years. Book the therapy sessions now . Seriously, best wishes to him and your family sir. Tipex
Any cute Nurses there ? It never ceases to dissapoint me when I go into a hospital, and the nurses aren't wearing skimpy uniforms a-la carry on films.
patently
He's back home! (With appendix still firmly attached). Antibiotics for a few weeks, then an appointment to review things, and possibly an elective op later. See how it goes. Am very relieved. Thank for all your kind words. cruiser647
Good stuff! Does he have to watch what he eats?
patently
If anyone can persuade my son to eat properly, please pm me asap! Pizza, bread, butter, and roast potatoes will go in reliably. Anything else, fat chance! It is being (gently) pointed out to him that one reason we have been so keen in the past for him to try fruit and veg has been to avoid, err, suddenly having to go to hospital for four days.... Glad to hear all is going well. These childhood experiences really do have an effect. I had a real crush on my second year history teacher and her boobies. I am now married to a history teacher with, erm....
