Tarmac_Terrorist
As the title suggests, what do you believe is the most over rated cleaning / detailing product out there? I'll stir things up a bit....I would put Megs Last Touch in this category. Cheap it is but I think it adds very little in the looks department, the finish is not as slick as others and beading on a freshly waxed car is better without it. I just use mine as a clay lube now. My other wooden spoon award goes to Autoglym's tyre shine. Hopeless leaky trigger spray which if breezy goes all over the surrounding bodywork and wheel and then attracts brake dust to cling to the wheel. Can't believe they can't do better. There are others but I can't bring them to mind....
Tarmac_Terrorist
Ah yes, one more - Sonus MF cloths (white with red silk edging). Not as plush as many others, looks and feels rubbish after a couple of washes, over priced too.
alFR
Wax costing £7000. Seriously, £7000? You have got to be kidding me.
steelwind101
HAHA! Nice thread TT! Ok well i have to say you were all warned about Last Touch....! I totally agree with everything you have said. If you want 2 gallons (presuming you dilute it 1:1) then thats alot of lube, apart from that you can spend slighty more and get a about 1000% better product! Meguiars Gold Class, you can buy NXT for the same amount. Its flat, has zero fillers, mutes metalics, lasts about month.... Poorboys Wheel Sealant. Lasts about month, more durable products can be had for less that do the job better. Bilberry/Redberry what ever the others are called. I found you have to have it at high dilution if you want to shift real dirt on wheels. Then its not so cost effective....just seem to make a brake dust gravey on my daily driver and need a couple of goes. Unbranded foam pads for the DA. I got some from a few vendors, they are generally stiff foam. After a few uses front start to break down, and they stop breaking down the polish and make a mess. Totally NOT value for money! Also, where they are so ridgid if you apply pressure to the machine you tend see them start to tear, that can be dangerous and means they need throwing away! Meguiars HyperWash, it claims great dilution ratio and indeed it does have. But who would want to use it at that? Its not all that lubie nor does it have great cleaning power. By the time you amp up the dilution ratio you might as well have bought a normal car shampoo like Duragloss. As Meguiars helpline says "its only a recommend maximum dilution ratio and you requirements may require more product"....HA! Im sure there are others that will come to over night! I use Bilberry at a 4:1 ratio and find it works a treat, especially when aggitated with a wheel brush.

spikeyboy
Geoff - agree with your comments on hyperwash - bought a 5 litre bottle of it and am finding that its not that lubby and i have to use loads of it to get good suds. I have reverted back to using megs nxt for washing and adding the hpyerwash to snow foam for the foamer. What shampoo would you recommend ? im almost out of megs nxt. I think online you can find it for about £18-£22 and its well worth the £3-£5 more then shampoo plus. I just restocked with a Duragloss 901/902, you would be really happy with that its probably, all things considered the best shampoo money can buy. Serious Performance sell it. Its a 1oz per US gallon shampoo, if you need to measure an ounce with something they sell a measuring cup for cheap. Poorboys Super Slick and Suds is another good shampoo as its Optimum Car Shampoo. Tarmac_Terrorist
Ooh - just remembered another 'flop' product. Chemical Guys Microfibre Wash. £7 a bottle and what exactly does it do over and above some liquid non-bio stuff? I kind of feel I should use it but struggle to see any advantage.

The tyre dressing is poor and comes off within a day !. Agree re Megs LT too..................Let me have a think I'm sure I'l be back with more..... Dave
Wonder wheels is another one i don't use anymore.. fantastic product in that it removes everything from your wheel, but after using a few times it made my alloys take on a dull appearence. A classic Halfrauds product. I've tried it and it it's just too aggressive.
steelwind101
We are atleast agreed that Hyper Wash and Last Touch are not to be recommended, you can get better for the same or only slightly more? As for the SCG, i dident touch the tyre stuff, i could see from the product in the bottle pics that it was not going to be my type of product. However the Road Grime remove is as good as P21s Total Auto Wash and was/is less money! I also like the QD. WW is aggressive stuff! I think also some of these products come with rough bristle brushes that marr the clearcoat on the wheels giving the full effect much like it would on paintwork. P_G
So as Hyper Wash and Last Touch aren't recommended even though I get on with them OK, former in my foam gun, what do you buy instead? I find MEG's NXT QD worse than last touch, the latter is handy for drying off the car.
